I put plants in my run and wrap chicken wire around then so they can peck at them but not dig them up till harvest you can hang baskets of herbs to snack on and when they start to look scraggly just move them up for a week or so to regrow

Check for parasites and put hen healer on the bare spots ,it seems to deter mine if you are using a light at night turn it off so they will be less likely to fuss
