    Whole flock gone

I have to agree..weasel or mink will show no indication of blood or bites or anything. I had 3 guineas and got into a pair of guineas next and ate 14 out of 18 eggs. This happened all in one night...It could have been more than one mink. But we did trap a mink the next night. Thank goodness...

    Whole flock gone

SOOO sorry...that is devastating! I hate to say it but a mink or weasel will do such a thing. And they can get into the smallest places and climb most anything. I had 3 killed by a mink last year and it look like it just fell over dead.

Missing chicken during daylight. Only feathers left

That's sad... there are raccoons, hawks and owls that leave just feathers. Yes, owls in the day light, especially durning a dark gloomy day. As was sad previously, chickens are easy prey and whatever was there, WILL come back. When I lived in Washington State, I had Bobcats, getting into our...

    Hey Everyone

My pups come in with me while feeding chickens and check out the hen house and barn for critters... I have another hen house as well. This is the bigger one. If it wasn't for Buddy and Lucy I would have given up on chickens. The best pups ever!

    Hey Everyone

They are amazing dogs. I was out in the 12in. snow yesterday with winds ripping...one was in front of me and the other behind. The wouldn't leave me. In fact the one behind was so close I was nipping him with my boots when I walked and the one in front, I would steady myself in the snow. And...

    Hey Everyone

Believe it or not, I got Buddy in Mississippi! And there are a lot of these guys in Texas. They do get hot, and my dogs come in the house in the summer and stay on the cool floor in the kitchen. But they do pop to life at night to do what they do best. BARK and run every living thing off. We...

    Hey Everyone

Thank you! I do find this interesting. I plan on expanding my egg production since it looks like eggs are in big demand right now. Just waiting for it to warm a little before order more.

Is 20% protein too much for pullets and laying hens?

I have to agree with others, the 20% is fine, though 16% is the minimum. If you have a lot of chickens in the future and want to save a little money, buy the 16% and add oyster shell to the mix. After the age of 1yr old, it would be good for them.

I have had some bad luck with critters and have gotten two loving Great Pyrenees to take care of things...it...
