Hi
The light sussex are great. Two of the hens lay 6 a week. One seems to lay 5. The 4th lays about 3 a week. All went broody at some point last fall. All did a molt after being broody. Then they started laying again in January and have been very steady layers since then.

And for the light sussex folks...
Hi
Yes as an economist and a chicken lover it pleased me no end. Unfortunately Colin is a hen not a roo. But despite the gender misunderstanding she makes her point!

Hi All
Here is proof that chickens are VERY popular.
They are being used to explain political options and economics in a global warming context.
So they get to do 3 things at once - what multi tasking girls these are...
Maybe it is just that I name them on day 1 but
For this small flock I would like it ... Liking auto sexing depends on a few ifs.

If you use short periods of time...

Hi Timvdo
Can you put me in touch with the vet? James Richards is not doing the decrow any more.
I have a roo who was supposed to be a girl. As soon as he crows the city will take him and put him down.

Hi
If one breeds for the size and frequency of egg laying in selecting girls, and for size in the boys, why will that move you away from the breed standard? Has the breed standard changed since the 1920's one published in this chain? It is asking for a long back and the 45 degree tail. Is...
Hi Karen
In the 1920s breed standard it says the tail is carried at 45 degrees.

But you are liking the flat back with the tail coming fairly straight off the back.
What did they mean by 45 degrees? Is it the angle below the top of...
I asked the web about pullet eggs and found MANY articles about how awesome they are. I mean some people go to great lengths to get them and chefs … well they like them A LOT. So I started reading. It turned out I had not been cooking them properly. I have probably never cooked an egg...
