Hawk attack - will it come back for more?

Thanks everyone! I have a 100 Sqft area with temp fencing that they free range in and it has a pergola and bench for them to hide under. The temp fence connectes to our permanently fenced in area with a large covered area off the coop. Everyone made it back to the coop covered area but her. She...

Hawk attack - will it come back for more?

Hi All, Yesterday a hawk attacked and killed my silkie and basically fed on her for over an hour until there was very little left. I caught the whole thing on video. Poor baby thought it was clear after waiting when the others ran for cover and it wasnt. I'm hesitant now to let them all out in...

    Welsummer and freebie

Thanks! I’m expecting the freebie to be a male. They gave me 2 freebies and the other will be a white breed and already has a very prominent comb so definitely a male as well.

Soft shell, no shell, then pacing in and out of nesting boxes

***Update*** I’ve given her a calcium tablet every morning since Saturday. She has not laid a soft or shellless egg since. She has laid a normal egg daily since Tuesday. I’ll update again in a week or if something changes before then. So far, this seems to be working!

Soft shell, no shell, then pacing in and out of nesting boxes

She laid another soft shell last night. I’ll continue to give her a pill/day until there are no more soft shells. I do wonder if the Nutrena feed is better than the Purina. Any thoughts on that? I noticed it has a lot more vitamins and minerals than the Purina Layena.

Soft shell, no shell, then pacing in and out of nesting boxes

Yesterday I crushed up half of a 400 mg calcium citrate with 500IU D3, mixed it with water and then used a small corner of a piece of bred to feed it to her. She ate part but flung it and another lady ate it. So I took the other half and pressed it into blueberries and she ate it. This afternoon...

Soft shell, no shell, then pacing in and out of nesting boxes

Feed is Purina layena pellets 16% protein/3.5% calcium. oyster shell is out at all times for them to eat at their leisure and I’ve seen her peck at it. Just blueberries. No one else is having this issue. They do have a large grass area to free range as well.
