I keep meaning to update--sorry for the delay. She's just fine. Other than she's molting, she's her normal self. She's mischievous and I'm so glad she's ok. Heidi is my favorite. Thanks for asking!
We have a path of mixed stone and a few garbanzo bean sized marbles, so she had access if she wanted. I didn't see her take it in, but am pretty sure that's what I felt in her crop last night. Sigh... So far she's not 100% this morning, but is eating and a she just pooped a bit. She's out free...
Fingers crossed it just hangs out in her gizzard. It's not a huge marble-about the size of a garbanzo bean. I just happened to pick her up last night and felt her crop and felt the marble. Frankly, I was surprised it wasn't in her crop this morning and took it as a good sign. I hope I'm right...
Well, the marble wasn't in her crop this morning. So, I imagine it's gone to her gizzard and will help her break up the rest of her food. She's lively and acting totally normal this morning. Crop was filling up with food nicely. We will see...
Thank you for your insight. This is what I feared. I can vomit her first thing in the morning before she has had anything to eat or drink. I'll just be out there with my coffee waiting on her. There's probably not much risk of aspiration if she's empty. I've vomited another hen once so I have a...
I think my hen has a marble in her crop. She's acting pretty normal, although she went to bed tonight with her crop less full than I would like. She hasn't laid an egg in three days and ran away from me when I went to pick her up, which isn't normal for her--she's quite affectionate. Any thoughts?
I am treating with Corid and am not supplementing vitamins at the moment. I definitely intend to do so once treatment is over.
I understand some amount of undigested grain in poop is normal. What she is excreting is not a normal amount. It's really excessive. That being said, every day she...
I have a 16 week old Crested Cream Legbar pullet who is passing a lot of undigested grain in her poop. She has had a rough few weeks when I discovered she had worms. She has since been wormed and the entire flock is currently being treated for coccidia after finding bloody poo on the roost from...
Hi! I have three 18 month old hens. I'm considering introducing two 6 week old Cream Legbar pullets into the flock. I believe my hens were vaccinated for Marek's. The new pullets are not. Should I be concerned with combining vaccinated and unvaccinated?
I know! I just don't know what else to do though. Which is the lesser of two evils? I think I'd rather deal with the consequences of excess calcium than egg yolk peritonitis. I hope to find some sort of happy medium at some point in time.
