That is super unfortunate. I was hoping my older silkies would do better but they are both dark as well and few weeks older. Separating permenately would definitely be rough since we free range but if it comes down to it I will have to. I was hoping I wouldn't run into too many issues with this...
I have two 8-9 week old silkie hens, 3 barred rock hens and 1 new Hampshire red hen. The NHR hen has always been best friends with the silkie chick. Which always made me laugh since they are my only 2 buff colored chicks that I have. And they are only a week apart in age. Now she has grown a lot...
It really is! I just have no idea why they turned on my silkie chick all the sudden as well. They've been together since they were 1 and 2 weeks old. He is the only bantam chick and the only light colored one. Aside from that there is no difference. They've all gotten along so well for quite a...
So I had gotten 4 saphire OE Chicks a little while back. Integration went over great and they joined the flock and was living with them harmoniously for a couple of weeks. All the sudden-the older chickens (2 months and some a bit older) have turned on my chicks all together with random...
It is so small and dainty. Lol. Do yours lay about the same size or will they get any bigger ? I know they will be much smaller then my others, aside from possibly the silkies.
My OEGB, Pixie, is about 5 months and just laid her first egg. It's so tiny and cute so I had to share lol. It is pretty well shaped for her first egg? I'm a bit surprised.☺️
I've been told they can be okay layers and told they can be horrible layers.
What is your experience?
Shes my first to...
Some resemble my barred rock babies. A lot.
Although I know it's not uncommon for certain breeds to resemble eachother as chicks. This one I'm unfamiliar with.
First single photo doesn't so much as the darker one. Do they just vary in shades?
Hello!
Not sure if this is a huge concern or not as she has no other issues (so far) but I recently noticed my 2 month old silkie shaking her head in a dizzy manner. It's not anything she's ever done before. She is eating and drinking fine. Just acting a bit off and doing this strange...
EE's are mixes so they can really differ bird to bird-but they look like they are. Eggs can vary. Legs can vary. Most of mine have had the darker legs but I've had some without as well.
Update-it isn't the shoes. Unfortunately I don't believe he's going to be staying with us. As he chased my 5 year old as we were going to the car. He's fine with me (who is obviously larger) but-i can't risk the aggression with the kids. They enjoy helping with the animals as well. And little or...
To my daughter! I have an 11 year old that loves helping with the chickens and bantams along with just playing outside in general (our chickens free range). Well we have a new rooster who was perfectly content with everyone including her-up until today. But I noticed he was drawn to her...
Thank you guys! I am hoping so. He thought they were Dutch-and though I like both I prefer the oegb lol. Though these roos do not stop crowing 😅 I never had oegb roos before and they by FAR outcrow any rooster I have ever owned. Lol. I think they just like hearing themselves at this point 🤣
