Thank you all for your advice, input, and what works for you. I separated my second hen and her one chick. If I let her raise her one chick, do you think will that be an issue once it comes time to integrate since the one chick will then be alone? The rest of the flock can see them but can’t get...
I had two Broody ladies. I gave my first hen three chicks Thursday night and she accepted them and has been doing a great job at protecting her babies from the rest of the flock. I gave my second hen two chicks Friday night and she seems to be adjusting to being a mother hen but isn’t has fierce...
I understand what you’re saying. I’m being “nice” but I won’t back down from him either way. Either he will know to respect me or he’ll end up in freezer camp. Just hoping I don’t have to get spurred in the process. 🤣
Thank you for your advice! I’ve been trying to give him treats and loves. He’s still in that skiddish stage but I know as long as I am the “treat lady” and respect him, hopefully we can come to a non aggressive agreement lol. 🥰
Update: Freddie is definitely a boy. Trying to handle him more and showing a little bit of dominance so hopefully he turns out as a nice Roo. Any tips for trying to influence a ‘nice’ rooster I.e. doesn’t attack me or my kids, I’d appreciate! I’m hoping to be able to keep him. 🤞🏻
About 7 weeks old Easter Egger. Bought from Coastal and I know nothing is ever 100% but I keep talking myself back and forth if this one with the already extra red comb is a boy?! I think it is but again I keep telling myself maybe he’ll be a girl… 😬
Thank you so much. I just ran out and took this. I guess I’m not an expert but it looks more white than yellow but I could be wrong. It doesn’t matter either way what breed she is. She’s super sweet and I’ll keep her no matter which she grows out to be lol 😂 I was just so certain she was a maran...
Picked up this sweet lady today. Picked her out of the “color assortment” pullet bin. Thought for sure she was a maran but now I’m not 100% and maybe she’s a Cochin? Can’t find any definitive telltale sign, which is which. What do you think?
oh crap lol. Well, with two cockerels and 15 hens, is that an ok balance in theory? I have 10 girls who are 6 months old and all laying and then 5 others that are also about 14-15 weeks, not yet laying.
Thank you! I kept going back and forth with the longer feathers at the bottom of his neck and today I took pictures of some of my girls and looking back through them I saw the saddle feathers.
Next question:
If sugar is in fact a boy then I will have 16 hens. Is that too many for one rooster...
