Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Thanks so much Barbara. I realize that sexlinks are not known for being broody, but I was optimistic. I think you are right, she is probably still settling in and not quite comfortable. Although, they free range, and my run and coop have more than enough space for my flock, she tends to...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I have a 2 year old Golden Sexlink hen that refused to come out from under our shed on Sunday night. I suspected that she was broody, but the next morning, my husband was able to coax her out. She spent the day ranging with the rest of the flock and went to roost in the coop with them Monday...

    Blue Andalusian thread!

Here's the other one. I need to get better pics, but at this point I'm pretty that these are both bantam mixed BA Roo's and not LF BA hens. What do you think?

    Blue Andalusian thread!

I got him from a local guy that has a great reputation and sells lots of chickens all different breeds. He sold me 2 splash and this blue when they were about 14 weeks old. All 3 appear to be mixed, this one and one of the splash appear to be roosters. They are really small too.

    Could he be a bantam?

    Cockerel or Pullet

Yeah, that explains why I'm not getting any eggs from her. Thanks!

Thanks....that's kinda what I was thinking too.

    Blue Andalusian thread!

This is supposed to be a Blue Andalusian Pullet, but for a while now, I've been suspecting not only that she's not a Pure BA, but that she's a he. She's about 29 weeks old and much smaller than my EE Rooster, but I realize that the size may just be indicative of the breed. Any ideas? The...

Don't get discouraged. I'm sure you're not in over your head. I started with 9 week old chicks last June. I now have 18 total in my flock, including 4 chicks, one of which my broody hen hatched this past Sunday. It gets easier, and then chicken math will take over. Before you know it, you...

Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well, I candled the two remaining eggs one last time. Since this is my very first time doing this, I was having a hard time trusting my eyes. It's one thing to read about it and look at pictures, but it's quite another to actually do it yourself. I suppose that's why I was so shocked when I...

I'm so sorry to hear the little guy didn't make it. Any way you can get a chick that's less than 48 hour old? Maybe he or she would be more likely to stay under the hen.
