    Straying chickens

I think they're causing some damage to her flower gardens It's just a few of the 17, but I know who my repeat offenders are. I may have to lock them up for a while. Boo.

    Straying chickens

We allow our girls to free range our 5 acres. Within the last few weeks they've begun wandering across the road to the neighbors and being a nuisance. I don't want to have to lock them back in their pen because I know they're truly happy. Does anyone have any suggestions on keeping them in the yard?

    Freak accident.

I don't notice an odor and it doesn't feel any warmer than any other part. Hopefully there's no infection! I feel like I would have seen a decline in her by now if it were. It's been 6 days since it happened.

Update: Henny is still eating and drinking normally and I'm still cleaning her foot a few times a day. Her foot basically looks like a giant blood blister at this point. She limps on it a bit still, so I imagine that it's still painful! I'm still worried about infection!

That's fantastic news! Sounds like your chicken was a fighter! I am using triple antibiotic ointment with every dressing change. I also picked up a small bag of Epsom salt to give her a couple soaks a day. I'm just so worried that she'll get infected!

    * excuse the shavings on the floor - she's in a large dog crate and keeps kicking them out

    Freak accident.

My poor OEGB got two of her toes caught in the track of our barn door. She lost the toes and the pad of her foot is pretty beat up. I cleaned it initially with hydrogen peroxide, antibiotic ointment, and Veterycin spray. Wrapped her up, good to go. She was putting pressure on it and walking...

    Plucked feathers

That's what I thought originally, but I guess they had a lot of roosters and they were beating the girls up. They're about 6 months old, if that matters.

    New girls..and boy!

Yes, it's a lot! We're on 5 acres, so we've got plenty of space for everyone. I didn't want that many, but it just happened I'll update tomorrow!

They have met and it didn't go as badly as I expected. They've all snuggled onto the roost ladder together. The silkies found a little place on the floor next to the ducks. We'll see how tomorrow goes since they only had maybe 45 minutes together before bed.

    New girls..and boy!

Tell me about it! My dad has been working at a farm doing carpentry work and they breed chickens and often switch out their flock. It came time to rid of some young ones and I thought he was bringing me 4-5 silkies. It didn't work that way, lol. I didn't know until he showed up!

    New girls..and boy!

Tonight I got 7 new chickens - 6 hens, 1 rooster - and they need names! I got 3 white silkies (2 hens, 1 roo), 2 white EEs, 1 Barred Rock, and 1 Jersey Giant. I was thinking for the Silkies following a name theme, like Disney princesses/princes or gemstones. The other ladies I was thinking of...

    Plucked feathers

Tonight my dad brought me 7 chickens from a farm he's been doing some carpentry on. 4 of those chickens (2 EEs, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Australorp or Jersey Giant) were severely manhandled by an over abundance of roosters. The Australorp/Jersey Giant looks awful - I can hardly tell what she is. She has...
