    Silkie

Hi all, I was soooo eggcited to find Silkies at my local Rural King. I bought two. They seemed healthy and I cleaned pasty butt on my yellowish girl (Lucinda) for three days. She wobbled a bit like a drunk but overall was very vocal and sweet and lovable. Yesterday I came home and she had died...

    Split bottom beak

Hi all, I was hanging out with my girls when I noticed Beverly's beak. The bottom one is split in half. It doesn't seem to cause her any pain. She eats and drinks and lays just fine. What could have happened?

    Frida's bald back..

Hi all, A while ago I had an aggressive rooster who rode my girl so hard he balded her back. Tore out so many feathers and hurt her skin. He is no longer with us and it doesn't seem like her feathers are growing back. Do I buy a feather fixer feed? Do the feathers grow back? I feel bad for my...

    Not laying in new boxes

Four days since the change. It's pretty different. Yes they get in and out easily. The other chicken took to it easily and I have even watched the one not laying in the nest- in the nest! Hard to see but the buff was laying and the other was just all up in her space. I added another nesting...

    Rooster comb scabby and bloody

Hi all, My rooster has some really raw areas on the comb on both sides. It's pretty gnarly looking. I know it's not frostbite because it's 88 degrees where I live. He's a pretty aggressive roo and he's pretty tough on my hen (she's missing back feathers and is bald where he mounts her) and I...

    Not laying in new boxes

Hi all, I just build a new roosting bar and nesting boxes to replace what I had. One of my girls refuses to use the new box, the other took to it without a problem. I keep finding eggs under the new bar and today the egg was really discolored. She lays a pretty dark brown egg but have found lots...

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Can anyone tell me about my boy, Suge Knight. He was the prettiest of the 5 roos we ended up with. Is this considered a "good" roo?

Celebrate- my now healthy girl laid an egg!

I got Cornelia as the leftover from a fox attack back in November. She suffered some eye issues and worms and was all alone in her own Til yesterday when I introduced the other two new girls. I was a little worried she would get pecked on again. She had never laid an egg for me until this...

    Keep treating or cull?

I checked on her this morning. I leave so early that I couldn't treat her more in the dark. The eye lid was shut but no longer swollen. Tonight when I get home I'll clean it again and give her the fourth day of tylan 50. I love my chickens Thank you all for your advice and encouragement.

    Keep treating or cull?

It feels better for both of us. She was a little shocked at the end. I'll check on her tomorrow morning before work. Hopefully this starts the road to recovery. I do worry it could be injury since she was a lone bird intro'd after the first two that had been there since birth. Let's hope.
