Hi all,
I just build a new roosting bar and nesting boxes to replace what I had. One of my girls refuses to use the new box, the other took to it without a problem. I keep finding eggs under the new bar and today the egg was really discolored. She lays a pretty dark brown egg but have found lots of white on the most recent egg and a really rough texture. Nothing has changed in her diet and I've even seen her in the new boxes but she wont lay in it. Any ideas?

Any change can cause stress and stress can cause laying glitches...could be why the egg is rough.
Give them time, try some fake eggs/golf balls in the nest.
How many day since the change?
Is the new nest easy to get into and out of?
Is the new nest vastly different than they old nest?

Four days since the change. It's pretty different. Yes they get in and out easily. The other chicken took to it easily and I have even watched the one not laying in the nest- in the nest!

Hard to see but the buff was laying and the other was just all up in her space. I added another nesting box that might be softer. Today I found another egg under the roosting bars. This time it was broken.
