Hi I have 2 light Sussex hens. They are now 12 months old. For the last couple days one has gone broody. She stays in her nest box sitting on her egg. I take the eggs off her and put her out in the garden but she goes back in anyway. I'm not sure if I should leave her be. How long will she carry...

Hi all. I recently found out one of my chickens is a rooster. I want to check my light Sussex as I have my suspicions that one may not be a hen . They are 14weeks old. I will attach pics. Thanks The one I have my suspicions about is the one in the front.

Yesterday this chicken hybrid of some sort got startled by the dog and started crowing like a rooster. He did it again this morning and went for my little dog. The chicken is 13 weeks old at this point. I'm guessing its a rooster. I'm trying to re home him as I can't keep rooster. Can hens crow...

I was about to lock the new chickens inside their coop and wondered if water/food should be put in with them for the night or will they just sleep? the food and water dispenser takes up a lot of room so would prefer to leave in their run for the morning. what do you all do? they will be let out...

Brilliant. your flock looks great,. I must say i prefer my mixed breed more. the light Sussex are nice but Ive a soft spot for my mixed one. I must upload some pics of my Sussex. here is my favourite.

It was bred from someones home flock.. It was the only egg to hatch so i fostered him/her.

I really hope i have a pullet. I wont be able to keep him/her if a rooster.

anyone know what breed or mix of breeds he might be?
