    Tips on breaking broodiness

Thanks to this group, I knew what to do for my Broody hen. She was sitting on 11 eggs, protecting them with her wings, for 24 hours. I lifted her out of the nest, and she seems to be happy to join the flock again. I found her sitting on 12 eggs. A few weeks ago they were nesting all around the...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Yesterday my neighbor called me to see the nest of 24 eggs she found in the woods between our homes. She had a new AC installed and the chickens were at her house, attreacked to haveing people around, I assume. We thought their production dropped because of a heat wave. We have 9 hens...

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Great question. We have 9 hens and have been getting 8-9 per day. Suddenly, the number dropped to 3-4 per day. I'm wondering if our heat wave is a factor. Is in the 90's.

I bought a home that came with 9 chickens. I know 3 are Rhode Island white, but don't know the rest.

    New to chickens

Thanks. A neighbor has a fire pit, so we can start with that, if it ever stops raining. Another newbie question... I have a bag of wildflower seeds that is mixed with mulch, fertilizer and seed. I'm concerned the seed will look like feed, and the chickens will eat it.The package describes...

    New to chickens

It's a long story, but we purchased our same dream solar home twice. When we bought it back, it came with 9 free range hens, about one year old and lovingly raised and handled often by 3 girls. I held them the first week, and got a terrible case of posion ivy, because they walk through it. I...
