    Skin condition or molting?

Thank you for the detailed response and ideas!! She does roost at night with the other 3 in the coop. She appears to be walking around just fine but I know chickens can be good at hiding injury. I will double check her feet and legs. I will pay close attention to how she's sitting on the roost...

    Skin condition or molting?

I have a flock of just 4 hens and only one of them (a barred rock almost 1 year old) has something going on with the skin on her lower breast/underside. She is not exhibiting signs of brooding and we can't tell that she's plucking her own feathers out. Since it's one specific bald spot on her...

    Floppy combs

Ok just checking. It did get up to 104° last week on a freak day but their combs were flopping before that. What kind of electrolytes do you use for chickens in case needed for the future?

    Floppy combs

Just wanted to upload pictures of my girls with floppy combs to see if more experienced people think they look normal? I haven't noticed a change in behavior and they still appear normal red color but I wouldn't think their combs are so large they'd flop like this? A 3rd hen is also starting to...

    Flock Integration Conundrum

I was watching on the coop camera just a few minutes ago and the cockerel raced outside to the run all of a sudden and the new girl was by herself in the run and he attacked her. I could hear her "screaming" from inside the house and on the camera. I raced out for rescue right away and she's...

    Flock Integration Conundrum

Yes, it's not even so much frustration as heartache for her. She is so, so sweet and looks to me for protection. I've read that if I constantly "save her" though, it just makes things worse. I would never let her get injured but to see the other chickens chase her off or peck at her where she's...

I wish I was having that experience for their age!

    Flock Integration Conundrum

I don't think space is a problem. Our coop is 4'x8' with ample roosting bars. The run is appx 250sqft. (I can't free range because we have bald eagles, osprey and all manner of predators.) I don't NEED a rooster. I'm ready to let him go but my husband doesn't view him as causing problems yet...

What did you do with your flock today?

This morning I told my kiddos that the chickens needed another roosting spot in the run so after a little chalk drawing planning (and a little help from mom with the power tools) they built a thing! The chickens have given their seal of approval 🤩

    Flock Integration Conundrum

I've read various threads here about integrating flocks and new chickens to an existing flock but I'm still not sure and need advice. We started fresh with 5 chicks this year. We're at the 15 week mark appx. 2 ended up being cockerels. I made a trade with a friend to take one of my cockerels...

    Roo Confusion? (EE)

Thank you for answering about the lack of crowing part too! In my gut I really thought cockerel but just want to be 100% sure before losing one of them!
