    Sick Roo.

Thank you everyone. We took Rusty to an avian specialist who sadly told us that he had fluid in his abdomen and that he was likely having liver/heart failure. He passed at home this morning in my arms. I appreciate all of the advice and insight.

    Lone Guinea

Hi everyone, sadly we lost our five year old rooster this morning. Even more sadly, he left behind his best friend, a lone guinea hen. She is lost without him and spent much of the day crying out for him. I am hesitant to try to rehome her as we really adore her (more of a pet than just a bird)...

    Sick Roo.

A little more info... he’s able to hold his head up but when I massage his crop, his head falls limp and he acts like it weighs a million pounds. I’m currently withdrawing food and water but am totally at a loss.

    Sick Roo.

Hi everyone, hoping for some guidance. Noticed my (approximately 5 year old) rooster wasn’t himself last night and today checked on him a couple times and he wasn’t eating. Easily scooped him up as he was lethargic (comb was red but purplish about half way up). When I tucked him under my arm, he...

    Antibiotic Side Effects

The vet didn't really address the sour crop as she was there to be seen for the bumblefoot and at the time was eating well, drinking well and from all outward appearances, feeling well. She told me to do the antibiotics for the bumblefoot and felt her crop and at that time (Thursday), it felt...

    Antibiotic Side Effects

She didn't unfortunately. Her breathing sounded fine and other than the bumblefoot she had very little to impart. We discussed the likelihood of her "getting better" and she didn't seem terribly optimistic but said the antibiotics would give her a "fighting chance". On Thursday when we were...

    Antibiotic Side Effects

Hi all - I have a 2 year old Buff Orpington who has been steadily losing weight. She was acting "off" a couple weeks ago so I brought her in the house and made her comfortable in the guest bathtub. I felt her crop and it was "squish" and she was off food - thinking it might be sour crop, I gave...

Sick Chick - depression or something more?

Alright, so this is a long one, please bear with me.... I have a low man on the totem pole chicken, Kevin as she's fondly known. She's accident prone and successfully been beaten up and come out on the good end of a bout of bumble foot. However, it's very clear she is the lowest in the pecking...

    Hurt Foot?

She's only about 9 months - a spring chicken so to speak. I was wondering if it was a roost jump myself, I'm just worried because the color of her toe isn't normal and didn't know if it was a bruise or maybe frostbite? I am giving her baby aspirin for pain and she's still in the laundry basket...

    Hurt Foot?

Hello all.. I was putting my ladies away on Friday when I noticed my favorite girl, Jerry, was sitting outside while all the others had gathered inside the coop. I didn't think much of it, and picked her up and put her inside. Yesterday, I noticed she was limping and when she wasn't limping, she...

    Treating flock with Corid

So, as I was on here the other day regarding my scrunched up hen, a lot of people suggested that I treat her with Corid ASAP. It arrived tonight but over the past couple of days, I have yet to see any bloody poops in the coop. Chicken Little is still scrunched up, but has been eating a little...

    Pullet All Scrunched

I was wondering if this could be the case - I have not seen any blood in any of the poop I've shoveled but I know that's not always a sure thing. Is there any harm in treating the flock as if this is the affliction without having proof?

    Pullet All Scrunched

Hi! I recently noticed that one of my ladies (Hyline) is acting odd - she is about 8 months old and has been with five other girls since we got them at 17 weeks. About a month ago, we introduced two roosters into the coop, and four guinea hens. She seemed fine with the chaos and was...

    So! Many! Mites!

Help! I have read through about 300 sites on mites and every suggestion contradicts the last - here's my issue. Last week, I noticed mites. Not on my birds, in the coop. On the walls. Crawling with the little ********. When collecting eggs, I came out covered. I began complete sterilization -...
