Thanks LadyoFmc and Folly's Place-I can use ivermectin next then. I do have one hen that seems to show the signs of worms while others do not-i treat them all, but it is only her poop that ever looks bad. Any insight on why that would be the case? She is the last of my craig-list hens that were...
I wanted to note exactly what I did--
when I worm with safeguard, I give 1/2-3/4cc(depending on the hen size) to each hen. Then, 10 days later, I re-dose with same dose. Withdraw eggs 14 days. This is what I do when I use valbazen as well. I alternate, so if I used safeguard last, 6 months...
I have digested so many worming threads here but I still need help.
I de-worm my girls 2x a year, and I rotate between safeguard, and valbazen. I individually syringe each bird, with doses recc in threads here. Then repeat 10 days later.
In July, I noticed some large round worms in poop...
Such a thing? I have the bright tap, and it works, but chickens don't love it, and they make a b-line to any pool of water on my land when I open their gates. I think they would love to lap up water out of a cup. And, I would love to find a cup that will screw onto my 5-gallon cooler spout like...
I would love your input...I am getting new 4 week old chicks...they will be vaccinated against mareks, cocci, newcastle/bronchitis, and I will administer AE/Pox...what about coryza or mycoplasma? I know it sure does seem cost prohibitive seeing as you cannot reliably divide up the doses and save...
Thanks. Oh gosh...I really thought these girls were vaxed-just a terrible assumption I made...my plan was to only have mareks vaxed birds from here on out, in case the bird I had died of mareks. :( Thanks for the info-it clears it up.
I got chicks from feed store and assumed they were vaccinated for mareks. They were not...they are on day 6...by the time I get it, it will be probably close to week 2 for them...too late? I just recently had a hen die of what sure seemed to be mareks. She is one of the last hens I had from my...
Thank you. Yes, they are all okay now. I was so happy when I found those two...I keep going out there hoping to find that fourth. Broody acted funny this AM-she got off her nest and was mad-sorta walking around making her angry noise...then she went right back onto nest to brood, despite not...
Help. :( I need advice. :( I have a broody hen...she has been broody for 8 days, 10-11 if you count the days I kicked her off of nest...anyhow...she was a great broody-I decided to do the whole broody adoption thing, with day old chicks. I put four under her last night(so day 7 of sitting on...
I wanted to make a note on this thread for everyone-I don't think strike iii is a great wormer-I decided to de-worm every six months. I first used safeguard. I intended to use valbazen next, and just alternate between the two, but tractor supply did not have it, so I used strike iii 6 months...
I used this inbetween my safeguard dose, and 2 months later, I found my first ever round worm in poop...so I am going to stick to alternating between safeguard/valbazen every 6 months now. :/ I would say no, I am not happy with performance.
This thread is blowing. my. mind. Who knew?! I am so tempted to do this, but we cannot have roosters in the city, so I can't. oh sigh...it would be so fun :)
Thank you so much! :) :)
I truly do appreciate all of the info everyone here has given-it has really helped me-this is all so new to me, and your stories help so much. :) :)
This sounds easier for sure...let me ask you this...So for those 2-3 days, do the hens and baby get off nest to eat and drink? If so, do you put the food and water very close to them so they don't have to venture far? Nest boxes are only 4 inches off floor-I shouldn't have to worry about a chick...
