Which cock for my purple hens?

Thank you for the suggestions. I am really fond of my Purple BS male, he will be worth the wait!! He's a very friendly pea. I looked high and low for a mature male, just not one to be found for this time of the year.

Which cock for my purple hens?

I have 3 mature purple hens (one purple bs). I've been looking for a while for a mature purple peacock, but couldn't find anyone willing to part with one. I did finally buy a handsome Purple BS male yearling, so I'm ready for the future. I want to put another male in their enclosure for the...

I live in Michigan when should my peahens start to lay

We're in the Thumb of MI and I have one hen who just started laying last weekend. 3 eggs so far. The other 15 haven't started yet. I didn't get my first egg last year until May 15th, I had it on my calendar. But this is a new hen to us. Good luck.

    Need some advice on prices

I was talking the Spicers from Cedar Springs last night. They have a pair of Purple BS yearlings available. I was considering buying their male, but he's related to my purple bs hen. They are planning to bring them to the Imlay City show if they aren't sold before then.

    Michigan Pea Breeders?

Thanks so much. My, then 8 year old, daughter got us into it and now the whole family loves raising the peas. She got her first bird at the Imlay City swap coming up on 3 years ago. We have 17 now.

    Male Peafowl

I'd be less worried about them getting hurt, more about them flying away. You definitely need to keep them penned up with a net or soft covering material for several months, I've heard 3 to 6 months while they reset to your home being their home. I tossed a flake of straw on the ground and...

    Chick Raising advice

My 8 year old daughter successfully had her first peachicks hatch using our broody chickens. It's pretty exciting because our chickens have never hatched any of their own eggs. We have 2 more pipping now. This one is still with the foster mom hens. How would you suggest we raise our...

2015 Peafowl Hatching Support Group - Eggs and Chicks!

We are brand new to raising peas. We've been raising chickens for 4 years. We have a 1 year old ib pair from a reputable breeder. She laid 5 eggs this week and we set them under a broody chicken. Should we get our hopes up for these first eggs? I'd appreciate any tips you can offer.
