    Squirrels stealing chicken feed

Cayenne pepper solved our squirrel problem. We went through a 5-gallon Home Depot bucket in a week and that was the last straw, as Milton would say. We bought a 3 lb bag of cayenne. We put about 1 cup of cayenne in 25 pounds of grain and mixed it very very generously and thoroughly, as in:the...

    Fowl Pox?

CDS85: Mine each seemed to only have one miserable day and several days they felt a little punk. None of them died. I don't know if it helped but I put some raw honey in their water. Jen

    Fowl Pox?

I just let mine get through it themselves. they all had one day that they clearly didn't feel good at all, then they got better. all of my flock got it. no big deal.

    Fowl Pox?

Hi Colleen! Here's what I know.. mine recently went through this, and Hi there, I am in so Cal too! if it is fowl pox, you don't have to take them to the vet, it will pass on its own, and is a virus anyway. it is not communicable to humans, so touch and eggs are ok. it took my girls a...

    No Eggs in 3 Weeks

I'm having the same problem with some of my hens. I have 7. The two cream legbars were really prolific egg layers starting when they were about 6 months old. That lasted a few months, but now they have both stopped laying completely. They had fowl pox, so I understood that was probably...

    Fowl Pox?

Hi All- All six of my hens have fowl pox now. It is dry pox and they are all through the worst of it. They're in their 3rd week. Most of them had eyes swell shut for a day. One both eyes for a day and clearly felt really sick. She didn't try to get back to the coop at sundown, I had to...

    Hello everyone! New member!

Hello--- Love this website - always a great resource. I have been raising laying hens for 2 years now. We currently have 6, another two coming at the end of December (they will be 3 months old then). We got our girls because we wanted the eggs, but we also wanted pest control for the garden...
