I am not looking for "show" quality pullets, so $40 each is way too expensive. Plus Linchfield, KY is too far away.

I use hardwood shavings (not sawdust) from my woodworking hobby. Seems to work just fine.

I sure wish someone would tell me where I can find a older silkie pullet or a silkie hen somewhere near Nashville, TN. There seem to be hundreds of silkie chicks or roosters available but no older pullets or hens.

Welcome to Middle TN. We live in Kingston Springs, 25 miles West of Nashville. We are trying hard to find a silkie pullet or hen for our silkie rooster. Even though you are new to the area, might you possibly know where we can find a female companion for our "fuzzy feet"?

My hens have quit laying eggs. At first I thought it was because they were molting. However, they haven't laid an egg in at least 4 months. These hens are about 4 years old. Do hens quit laying after age 4?

The "no eggs" problem could depend on what you are feeding the girls. Certain feeds contain ingredients that encourage egg laying. For example, we feed laying pellets. Not going in before dusk could be because the area has too much artificial light. Chickens behave based on the light...
