I can totally relate! I find myself sitting inside of the run on the ladders for hours some days.. I just wonder what the neighbors think! Lol! Thank you for you compliments
My husband and I recently bought a used, cedar, child’s playhouse from a yard sale for $75. It was pretty beaten up, but it had wonderful bones so I knew we could make it into the chicken coop of my dreams. I thought I’d share it with all of you as I am very proud of all of our hard work paying...
It's more noticeable in person I guess. Or maybe I'm paranoid lol! I keep comparing pictures of my last two batches of cochins and the males had prominent red combs by 4 weeks, but feathered out the same rate as the females. These two don't look as pullet-ish as my last batches nor do they look...
There is still one heck of a chance for a good hatch! Let them sit fat end up for AT LEAST 24 hours. Then incubate them fat end up. Don't turn them for the first 5 days of incubation and then at day 6 you can start hand turning them...but still leave them in the upright position. Just angle them...
I just noticed the little pinkish wattle poking through on the darker lavender cochin, so I figured I'd see what others thought. Thanks for your input :) Two pullets would be lovely
Hey there! I have two 4.5 week old beautiful lavender bantam Cochins. Usually I can sex them by now, but these two are confusing me. I know they are still young and 6-10 weeks of age is the perfect indentification age. Just curious what all of you cochin experts think! Thanks in advance ;)
This happened to two of my eggs before. The membrane turns brown when it’s exposed for too long. When I noticed the membrane turning brown, I let the eggs be for about 8 more hours to see if the chick made anymore progress. Neither of mine did, so I zipped the egg for them and carefully peeled...
My husband and I purchased a used child’s playhouse to convert into a chicken coop for $75. It was all cedar so I knew it would last outside. After building a base, nesting box, a new roof and adding a 6x8 run.. we were well over $500. We had shingles, paint, and some wood already so these...
I just wanted to share this miraculous/traumatic story!
A few weeks ago I set 19 chicken eggs and 10 quail eggs in my incubator. 4 days later I heard a crash and came running to find my incubator on the floor, lid open, eggs everywhere. My dang cat had knocked it off of the small table I had it...
The only problem with that is the moving part. Quail like quiet areas, little change, and don’t like disturbances. Moving them around may cause added stress and therefore decreased egg production. But I’m sure they would appreciate to be on the ground :)
I definitely think that is the case. They start beating up on each other when room is limited. Their rear ends are probably the easiest area to peck at while they’re trying to hide/get away from each other.
