Slimy black substance inside duck egg

Mods feel free to move this post. We have some ducks, and the one duck (Cayuga) always has eggs with a large mass of this slimy black waxy substance. What is it? I'm not sure what to make of it and am [somewhat] afraid to eat them. Any ideas as to what it is? Thanks, Joe

Chicken keeps "coughing", breathing heavy, sleepy?

Pea green poop and white.. solid, not watery. She moves her head every time she breathes now, but is not wheezing. She is walking around and preening at present.. She seems normal, but sick at the same time. I'm assuming it's just old age.. but I'd still like to know what is the matter.

Chicken keeps "coughing", breathing heavy, sleepy?

Doesn't look like she has mites.. I didn't see anything. She is molting too, btw.

There is no drainage from her nose, and her eyes look clear.

She's not shaking or itching.. her breathing is somewhat loud.. wheezing. We have not wormed her, or any of the other chickens.

Chicken keeps "coughing", breathing heavy, sleepy?

Good morning, We have a 9 year old SLW hen. For the past 5 or so days, she's been making this sound that sounds somewhat like a couch or a hiccup. She hasn't been extremely active, and hasn't been pooping very often. When she does, they're very small. She eats and drinks fine, and still...

    Lethargic chicken, unresponsive

We are sorry to say that she died in the middle of the night. To answer your question(s), we have never dewormed, however her poop was fine, vent was clear, crop was not hard. We gave her electrolyte water through a syringe right after we found her, and she had access to clean water all day...

    Lethargic chicken, unresponsive

I found one of my 2 year old chickens (EE) lying on the ground tonight when going to put them away.. she is very lethargic, poor head tracking and can't stand.. We gave her water (with a Syringe) and she swallowed 2 of the 3 times. Her body temperature is cold, she'll open her eyes and move her...

The more chickens, the happier the chickens??

Yeah, that's what I've been telling them. I told them that happy chickens won't sway the city council, but I gave them similar reasons: enough eggs to feed the family, etc., but thanks for all the help. I did forget about that poster! I think I will give them a copy of that, too.

The more chickens, the happier the chickens??

I have an interesting question. A family we know wants to apply for a permit in their municipality that allows them more than 3 chickens. However, they need to give reasons as to why they need more than 3 hens. One of the things they wanted to know, given they have adequate space, is if chickens...

    Cockatiel Talks to His Water

Our cockatiel imitates coughing, too! When we first got him about a year or so ago we all got sick right after, and about a month later he started up with this obnoxious sound; it wasn't until we were sick months later that we figured out what that sound actually was. He imitates me coughing...
