Wondering if I've got a golden comet cockerel

We heard some crowing a few days ago and this morning I was able to confirm that Marshmallow (the white EE) is indeed a cockerel. No other real changes in combs, comb color, or behavior from the others. Hoping that leaves us with five pullets.

Wondering if I've got a golden comet cockerel

Got a pretty good overhead shot of all six while giving a treat tonight. Not sure if these feathers help at all.

Wondering if I've got a golden comet cockerel

We had pretty terrible light when they were brand new, but this is the best picture of the bunch that clearly shows color. This would be about a week old. From the top there’s a sapphire, a golden comet, the two EE to the right, and then the other sapphire, and golden.

Wondering if I've got a golden comet cockerel

I've got six young chickens (roughly 6 weeks old), that ideally would all be pullets, but I'm wondering about one of them. The golden comets and the sapphire gems were both purchased the day they arrived at the farm store (3/25) and the easter eggers were picked up similarly the next day (3/26)...

Building away - adventures in a way too big chicken tractor

Running my hand up and down it I don't get any splinters, it's just not perfectly smooth. How far apart would you space cleats at a 20° incline?

I’ve been debating cleats on the ramp. It’s a cedar fence picket (not smooth) and goes up about two feet over a four foot run. Think it needs them?

Building away - adventures in a way too big chicken tractor

We got all of the coop finished! The roof is attached, hinged trim to block blowing rain is in place, and a hatch got added to the window over the door. Right now there’s a small roost in the coop, a bin of sand for dust bathing, a 5 gallon nipple waterer, and six chickens. Eventually the...

Building away - adventures in a way too big chicken tractor

Today is the day for the roof and hopefully moving the chickens into the coop. Plan is to let them enjoy the run this afternoon and then pen them up for three days. No roosts yet, just going to have the tub they’ve been using turned on its side for familiarity. Also going to use this time to...

Building away - adventures in a way too big chicken tractor

Yesterday got the ability to open and close the coop door, a set of pvc feeders, and the ramp to the coop in place. Also put a third coat of roof sealer on the roof. All that’s left is mounting the roof probably on Saturday mornin In a chicken update they’re doing great with no heat and just...

Treated plywood then cedar dogeared fence pieces

We didn't put any plywood on the interior. It's an option if the coop turns out to be drafty, but I don't think it's going to be where we are, but our setup would be easy to tuck in a way to block drafts.

Treated plywood then cedar dogeared fence pieces

Our entire coop structure is sided with dog eared fence pickets. It's still under construction, but I'm not too worried about it. We haven't decided if we'll stain the fence or not, my guess is we'll let it weather a bit though.

These are cheap harbor freight trailer jacks. They were super easy to put on and raise/lower the coop really well. In hindsight I'd have bought the double wheel one for a little more money to hopefully make it easier to roll on the grass. Time will tell both how well the hold up and how they...

One thing I forgot to share earlier. I love how this looks from the front with both doors in place.

My plan was to put the tub they've been using as a brooder into the coop on the side. I've also been thinking about a huddle box as an option. I may do that inside the brooder and then just move the huddle box to the coop.
