Review by 'Kirklasu' in article 'Why You Should Stop Feeding Layer Feed NOW'

From my experience this makes some valid points even if there are some unsupported claims. I worry a lot about feeding my cockerel the same food as the females due to calcium levels and also when I have had a chicken which just doesn’t lay or has stopped laying as it’s moulting or broody I worry...

    Never been a well chicken

Thank you Mrs K, we will keep her on layers pellets. We were concerned because she wasn’t laying eggs and didn’t want a build up of calcium to cause further symptoms …. but as she isn’t digesting food properly anyway it’s the best bet.

    Never been a well chicken

Thank you. We are very reticent to go to our local avian vet since the last time we went when we took our Silkie on day one of her being quiet and lethargic as we suspected she MIGHT have eaten rhubarb leaves and they took her off us and pumped her stomach and we could hear her screaming… she...

    Never been a well chicken

She gets time outside and eats soil… but I will make sure she has grit indoors. We give her drops into her beak for vitamins: Poultry Power Nutri-Drops with vitamins and Zinc added. Designed to be a fast acting pick-me -up supplement full of energy and immune system supporting vitamins. She eats...

    Never been a well chicken

My small bantam was lame from a chick when we got her. We suspected the wrong food causing gout but it could be genetic. We treated her for gout at the time. The lameness would swap from left to right and back or be in both at times. She seemed to recover and by February this year looked...

Syrupy liquid coming out of beak

Whenever our cockerel bends over to eat a syrupy liquid comes out of his mouth and he stops. What can be the cause? He is 1 year + and was very healthy until a couple of weeks ago. He was very handsome with big comb and wattles. Recently looking depressed, still eating and drinking a little...

    Vorwerk cockerel behaviour and pics

Thank you again… yes I will just go for it and bundle him up. I’ve learned a lot about a chickens respiratory system today and it’s incredible how different it is to ours. It’s so necessary to know it. Really appreciate your advice.

    Vorwerk cockerel behaviour and pics

What a great link. Thank you very much. I will endeavour to follow your advice though I may just have to take him to the avian vet as we have never handled him though we was hatched here with his sister and had a great mum. We will have to risk scaring him I suppose and hold him to check his...

    Vorwerk cockerel behaviour and pics

My first photo is of our Rooster who is a healthy 3 year old Vorwerk with bad behaviour so he’s in the run at the moment. The other three pics are of Bill our young 1 year+ Vorwerk Cockerel who up until two weeks ago looked more handsome than his dad with redder and bigger comb and wattles. Now...
