    Guinea talk.

I'm hopping in, I will start with that I don't have any guinea fowl yet. Still debating it. Currently I live in town and my chickens live in my backyard. My dog and the neighborhood dogs keep predators at bay and thankfully I haven't had any issues with any for 2 years now. I just bought some...

    My 23 week old babies

These girls are huge!! I knew that buff orpingtons were large birds but my barred rocks are big girls too. These are all hatchery quality birds. I still think they are gorgeous!!! My barred rocks are named Shiny and Tiny and yup I can tell them apart! Tiny is a good bit smaller than Shiny and...

    Egg-bound, dropped egg still bad

Hardest thing I've ever had to do. So thankful for good friends whose husbands understand and helped her over the bridge. Thank y'all again so much for the help and encouragement. Hoping to not have to deal with this again for a very long time.

    RIP Pepper

I've been a chicken owner for a little over 18 months now. My new babies this year came home with me healthy and thriving from day one. Pepper fell ill Friday with a bound egg, turned out to be a lash egg. She was only 23 weeks old. I did everything I could do, consulted the great people of BYC...

    Egg-bound, dropped egg still bad

Thank you so much for the kind words and advice. I do all of those things as it is so I pray this was an isolated event with her. This is my first sick chicken and it's something I have dreaded dealing with since I got chicks spring of last year. I knew when I got chicks this year and the more I...

Is there a way to treat the whole flock in case? I only have 8 total. I just got these 4 in May, did everything correctly as far as introduction. They were on medicated feed up until a few weeks ago. The floor of the coop is just dirt floor.

    Egg-bound, dropped egg still bad

No one has ever had any problems as babies or now. All always seemed perfectly healthy. Sometimes a random sneeze but it's dry here and they are not common and nothing runny. I'll double check everyone tomorrow for anything runny. They free range and only stay in their coop at night.

Does this mean if that's what it is my other birds will get it??? I can't lose my original 4 hens. That will destroy me.

    Egg-bound, dropped egg still bad

Lash egg.. That's what a friend called the egg that she passed the other day. I hate she's so miserable. Could this have happened because she's so young? Here is the egg she passed on Saturday. Sorry for all the gross pictures.

    Egg-bound, dropped egg still bad

Yeah I was right. It's not just poop coming out. She has something hanging from her vent but it's not her vent it's something from inside. When I touched it she seemed to be in a lot of pain. She threw up on me and I got her rested and back in her spot to sleep. I haven't been able to stop...

    Egg-bound, dropped egg still bad

At first I thought it was prolapsed but actually think it may just be swelling. I have had people tell me that theirs walked like a penguin for a couple of weeks then went back to normal activity and laying. I don't have a chicken vet and honestly don't have the money to spend a lot on vets for...
