This happened to one of my chicks. She kept opening her beak. The first time I noticed we thought she has clogged nose so her mouth opening was to breath through her mouth. But the next day she was flipping her head and when I tried looking inside her mouth, the tounge's tip was almost down her...
I don't know if this thread is still active but I have these kind of crosses of red sexlink hens with RIR roosters. There will be 3 outcomes and all of them can't be sex linked: 1) chicks will look like a Rhode island chicks born with dark brown furs 2) chicks born w/ 2 light brown stripes on...
No update?I have chicks from this cross. They're now around a week old. I think I have mostly females from wing sexing? I have one with very dark brown stripe in the middle. Is this still part of a cross? Coz some of my Isa brown/red sex link hens would go out of the property and sometimes...
Thanks for this thread. I was worried I thought it was malaria. My first successful hatch just did this. It was very dark green poop. It still hasn't fully fluff up and has been hatched 8 hrs ago. It seems healthy I guess. The other one is thin and seems like a red organ or that's probably the...
Interesting. I have 4 dozens of production hens and 2 RIR roo. M planning to buy some pairs of silkie so I can have the silkie hen to raise the chicks from my production henxRIR roo. The silkie roo was just to make the silkie hen broody. And maybe get some extra silkie chicks? I need the silkie...
Yes, Kabir isn't really a breed but a type. It came up since the term Dixie rainbow was very new to me. The difference is freedom rangers aren't as big as Kabir. Kabir chicken is slight bigger than say Rhode island red and meatier. I was hoping I could get a clear direction of identifying a...
Yes, Kabir has no specifics unlike other pure breeds. That's why it might be the same with Dixie rainbows. They're very common meat birds and affordable too
Thank you for your honesty and quick response. Honestly it's hard to tell if hatcheries from my area are selling first generation F1 CX. They could be multi generations already. I wonder if that will affect the result. Also, coming up with an own CX is a bit expensive since they're a cross of...
Tym from the thread it didn't give some specifics of the parents but more of the Dixie rainbows physical/plumage. There's a chicken called kabir, would you say that it can be a Dixie rainbow? Kabir are huge chicken but looks like a mix of brown, black, red and orange feathers.
Thank you and wow this is the first time I've seen an active thread in BYC!! 😂 I usually join threads that are atleast a year old for the last reply. I can't explain the feeling 🤣
Hatcheries car
Hatcheries carefully sex them idk how at day old to prevent selling that could breed. For those who buy thousands of chicks, they're usually for culling. But when you buy from stores for backyard raising, they usually end up pullets. I rarely see mix genders
