Double laying box: Divided or Communal?

I have looked in our laying area before and seen a pile up. It made me laugh out loud.

Double laying box: Divided or Communal?

Actually, that might make a difference. We have mostly Favaucanas which I think are a mix of Faverolles.

Double laying box: Divided or Communal?

I was looking at some of the rollaway egg nesting boxes and see that there are two kinds of double boxes, those with a divider to give each hen privacy, and those that are open, so there's no "favorite" spot. Which type of box is generally preferred by hens or owners? I'm trying to decide which...

Trying to feed my chicken the lemon/cayenne mixture. How do you get it in the chicken?

Yep, that’s what I meant. I’ll just see how she does, I’m usually concerned a little bit that her crop feels doughy at the end of the day, but it’s pretty empty in the morning so maybe that’s not a concern. At least I now have my feeding tubes and the ACS for the day that I might need it.

Trying to feed my chicken the lemon/cayenne mixture. How do you get it in the chicken?

Today was the 5th and last day of dewormer. I have to say, this has made a remarkable change in the flock. Hiko (our sick chicken) has a lot of energy and her crop is empty in the morning. We got more eggs yesterday than we had in two weeks (which sadly, went right in the trash and will for 9...

I hope so too. It’s hard to not know what’s happening. That’s a frustrating feeling.

Doughy Crop, ACS treatment, and feeding?

Yeah, I’m not sure what to make of the vomiting either. I hope all goes well!

She’s still doing well. Her crop felt empty this morning, but this evening it was full again and felt doughy. Still waiting on my feeding tubes…

Doughy Crop, ACS treatment, and feeding?

Deworming has helped our hen immensely! I am seeing an improvement after about 2 days of dewormer. I am giving each hen 0.23 ml of safeguard equine paste once a day (from this article) I haven’t figured out the best way to give it to them. My current strategy is to hide it in a small pile of...

Trying to feed my chicken the lemon/cayenne mixture. How do you get it in the chicken?

The dewormer is having an effect. She’s definitely more attentive today. Tomorrow morning will be Day 3 of the dewormer. Can’t wait for my feeding tubes to arrive so I can start treating the doughy crop more effectively. But so far, so good.

Doughy Crop, ACS treatment, and feeding?

Sorry to hear that your hen is showing symptoms again. I hope it gets better. I did buy some hoses. There are some useful links in this post and that’s where I bought them and some feeding syringes. I got 3 18fr and one of the next size up and down (just in case). The shipping costs more than...

Doughy Crop, ACS treatment, and feeding?

I’m so glad that your hen is on the mend! Yes, I’ve been wondering if ours will also have a permanent enlarged crop and will need a harness as well. I tried the lemon/cayenne mixture myself and my mouth was ON FIRE. No wonder she hates it so much and her beak is open after I do it. I have to...

How did your hen fare? Did she make it? Our hen has similar symptoms with yours. I ordered the ACS.

Here are some photos if it helps. She’s the white Ameraucana in the middle. The others are busy in the dirt, but she more than she used to, mostly stands with her head tucked in a bit. This is a poop sample from her that I found this morning. She’s had one dose of Safeguard at this point.
