Chicken unbalanced and constant head flicking

Inside of his ears are all clear, it was more precautionary antibiotics based on his behaviour. No visible lice or mites, I treated him with ivermectin at the time just in case. The feathers round his eyes are all fairly short and his eyes are clearly visible. Have checked him for bumblefoot and...

Chicken unbalanced and constant head flicking

My 3yr Silkie Showgirl Cock Barry has become very unbalanced, regularly falling over and shakes and flicks his head frequently. I first noticed him looking off about 8 weeks ago, maybe longer. Initially I assumed it was either some kind of ear infection or mareks. I treated him with antibiotics...

Does it matter f they can see hens? I have a couple of flocks with both hens and a couple of cockerels but as is often the case have a couple of spare boys with no ladies, and wondering if I can have them living in a separate enclosure in the same field? Wouldn't put them immediately next to...

    Bobwhite Snowflake quails...boys or girls?

Appreciate it isn't easy from a single photo! Do you think they'll be OK to live together as a bachelor trio? They have a 3ftx6ft full height run, wanted to make sure they had space to escape any bickering!

    Bobwhite Snowflake quails...boys or girls?

Just to update anyone who is interested, all 3 turned out to be boys 🤦‍♀️ still all living together though with a bit of squabbling now and then but nothing serious thankfully. No quail eggs for me!

What breed is my drake? Shetland?

Hi all, just interested to see what you all think? Don't get me wrong I'm aware he isn't some amazing pure bred fantastic example of anything 😅 but he does bear a striking resemblance to a Shetland duck? He was given to me as a sub adult, was hatched by my neighbour in a mixed batch of eggs she...

Silver Appleyard struggling to pass eggs

Just to add I live in the UK and calcium gluconate doesn't seem to be readily available to purchase over the counter hence looking at an alternative source of calcium. Happy for someone to tell me otherwise though! Would the farm vets be able to supply me with this potentially do you think?

Silver Appleyard struggling to pass eggs

Thanks for coming back to me. I've found some liquid calcium that I can add to the water, my next question is will this have a negative impact on my drake and cockeral who also drink the same water?

Silver Appleyard struggling to pass eggs

Hi, my Silver Appleyard keeps having problems passing eggs. She has been laying since December and is approximately 10 months old. She started off well and was laying decent sized hard shell eggs every couple of days. Then after a few weeks she laid a couple of soft shell eggs. She now...

    Showgirl chick foot problems

She is ok as long as she has the shoes on but as soon as they come off (as in when she manages to peck them off) her feet return to their normal messed up position. Her legs seems to twist outwards the whole time. She didn't have the leg brace on for a couple of days to see how she got on but...

    Showgirl chick foot problems

Hiya, my showgirl chicks hatched last weekend and one of them (named Mouse) has an issue with her feet. Her outer toes seem unusually short and she holds them very close to her middle toes, which then means the toes the other side then curl round. She could walk initially, in her own way, but...

    Show off your roosters

No they're not really fans of his as he likes to dish out random pecks now and then so they give him a wide berth 😄 I do love having the boys but they can be a handful at times, chickens are much better behaved....generally anyway!

    Show off your roosters

Its actually for the rabbits but he likes to use it as a podium to tell the world just how fantastic he is.
