    Duck Breed Focus - Ancona

I am no expert, but those seem to look more like a runner duck breed than Ancona. As I understand it, there can be a tendency for Anconas to present with the runner body type though. So maybe these are some culls? or bred from a line that should be culls if your intention is to have Ancona...

IncuTurn Egg Turner with HovaBator 5800 Genesis to Incubate Chicken eggs

The turner is louder than I would have expected. The motor is just noisy. It is odd at how small and slow it is for all of the noise it makes.

IncuTurn Egg Turner with HovaBator 5800 Genesis to Incubate Chicken eggs

That's what I was hoping. I like the natural movement but it challenged my nerve to see something I didn't expect. If makes total sense but I wanted some assurance That everything is alright.

IncuTurn Egg Turner with HovaBator 5800 Genesis to Incubate Chicken eggs

Yes, definitely the chick and yolk.... The thing that I thought was odd was that it was all to one side but I guess that is not too strange. In a tilt style incubator, the chick and yolk bunch at the bottom and it is okay so I guess that is all that is happening except that it is on the side...

IncuTurn Egg Turner with HovaBator 5800 Genesis to Incubate Chicken eggs

I do like this incubator. The monitoring equipment built in is great. They're not discolored on the shell. It was dark like I was used to seeing in the bottom (pointy end) of the eggs that I have done in the tilt style turner. The egg sac did seem normal but it was a little difficult to...

IncuTurn Egg Turner with HovaBator 5800 Genesis to Incubate Chicken eggs

Okay all, I have a question... I got a brand new Incubator and Turner. I ordered it from Incubator Warehouse through Ebay. The incubator seems to be great. The temperatures seem to hold steady and recover when I need to open it. The humidity also seems to be holding very well as long as I...

    Waterfowl

I think I misled you with my last question. The mallard type like Rouen, Silver Appleyard, and Saxony are easily sexable. How do you identify the sex of the Ancona? Is this the voice sexing you were talking about? Then the tail feathers? What is the difference between show quality and...

    Waterfowl

Yes this is a great help. These will be the next addition. I was sold on Silver Appleyard Ducks until I found these. At some point, I will probably raise both but I can't build up too fast. Your expertise has really been helpful and I hope that you will have ducks available at the time I am...

    Waterfowl

Thank you for the pictures and explanation. So to help me understand, with Anconas, the more broken the pattern is the more desirable the duck is and the more correct it is? Also to be clear on my part, Tri-color does not indicate 3 colors but the solid patterning that you describe above...

    Waterfowl

What is wrong with or about tricolors? Can you post a picture of one? What makes an Ancona show quality? Lots of questions... I get why you wouldn't want a white Ancona because at least part of their appeal is their interesting colors. I am not sure why on the tricolor though.

    Duck Breed Focus - Ancona

I do not have any of these ducks yet but I expect to get some in the Spring. I have not decided yet if I am going to try to hatch them or buy ducklings. I have reached out to a breeder that has not gotten back to me yet about her recommendations. I think these ducks are really cool. Their...

Comment by 'MonTXChickens' in article 'How To Incubate Hatch Eggs Using The Dry Incubation Method'

I tried this method and had success but not with these instructions exactly. I killed nearly 3 dozen viable eggs following these instructions. I got some advice from others in a hatch along that corrected the fatal error. The problem came because of the plug instructions. The plugs should be...
