It's not looking likely right now. She seems to be standing permanently. Not even sitting down. So don't worry about saving any eggs for me.

I found pictures on this message board of broodies in baby goat carriers - I mean large dog crates. So I put Broody in one tonight with plenty of straw, two golf balls and an egg. It will at least keep her in there.

I think/know that all those things will happen if we leave Broody in her original spot. The other hens are laying eggs there now, and they don't have to wait for her to leave the nest. They just lay the eggs, they roll under her, and she commences guarding them all. We pull up to five eggs a day...

Well, Broody has managed to rejoin the flock after escaping from her jail (it's only four feet high), and got back in with the help of a neighbor. I'm not sure I can move her and get her to brood anywhere else. Any more suggestions?

All I've read so far indicates separating. Leaving her in her favorite spot is not practical because other hens will keep laying eggs there, and she can't protect the chicks as well. Perhaps that's the same for you. Her favorite spot is in an astroturf sloped nestbox. Doesn't seem like it...

Well, this is embarrassing. I believe I transferred the wrong hen last night. There were two hens in that nest box at night, so I had a 50/50 chance. Broody was in her usual nest box, puffed up like a chuzzle when we check for eggs. A transfer didn't seem plausible in the daylight. I'll have...

Thanks to all for the encouragement. I'll be setting up the new enclosure today. I'll try moving her at night and see if she stays broody for a few days. If she does stick, I'll be getting eggs. Glad to know some of you are around here. If it does look like we'll have chicks, I will need...

I wasn't sure if the golf balls would help - since they kept rolling down to bottom of the rollaway nest. However, today I found another pullet egg, and it was in the next box, down in the collection area next to a golf ball. An egg in the right place!
