Sponsored Post Nestera Coop Giveaway! Total worth $1595

Ease of access to clean and being able to move to fresh ground as often as we want makes it perfect. Chickens love clean fresh living areas! And it’s so important for us since the kiddos help out so much with them.

    Mottled Belgian D’ Uccle pairing

We’ve had no luck finding this handsome gentleman (named “Admiral”) any mottled ladies. Still new to pairings but would it be best to match him with a black D’ Uccle hen while we continue to search for mottled? Any good resources for color/ gene charts? Much appreciated. At the moment he is...

    White pasty brahma

Thank you we will try washing her and see if she starts acting strange. She’s our daughters favorite so I was worried.

    White pasty brahma

One of our 3 month old brahmas seems to have white paste on her hind quarters. Any thoughts and suggestions for treatment are much appreciated. Should we separate her to treat? She seems a bit slower than usually but was eating and drinking fine all day. She is very docile and easy to handle if...

Guinea eggs in with chicken eggs

Hatching is definitely fun and interesting. People post guineas often on our Craigslist locally. We will be finding homes for several of these little ones too since we had so many unexpectedly.

Guinea eggs in with chicken eggs

Yes! The chicken eggs hatched out on schedule and the guinea eggs started hatching 4 days after that. 3 hatched and then it was silent for two days until more started coming out. They are still hatching out currently and we are at 11/18 guineas so far! I ended up putting a styrofoam barricade...

Help with chick and sac hanging out?

It did hatch a day early but hatched itself within a few hours of first pip.

Help with chick and sac hanging out?

We just had a chick hatch with the sac hanging out we believe? Not sure what can be done. Will it still absorb this? Should I wrap it? It already nicked it once with its foot so I’m holding it so it can’t move. Please advise.

Guinea eggs in with chicken eggs

Now I’m also wondering if I should take the chicks out as they hatch so they don’t trample the guinea eggs or leave everything constant to maintain the humidity and temp.... Perhaps build a proper solid divider out of something that still lets air through.

Guinea eggs in with chicken eggs

I’m having a hard time getting a clear picture, the shells are very thick and the baby is taking up a good deal of the egg already. I’ve had them in the incubator for 15 days alongside the chickens so I’m guessing they are between day 18 and 20 from looking at an incubation chart. I hadn’t...

The temp stays at 99.5 and 40-45% humidity btw.

Guinea eggs in with chicken eggs

So I have a batch of chicken eggs in our incubator (I turn by hand 5x a day so no automatic turner). The day after I started them my farmer neighbor handed grandma a carton of guinea eggs... The hen sitting on them had been taken the night before by a fox. She had nobody else broody and knew we...

Brahma chickies at 6.5 weeks old

I’m not sure which are related in this batch because we got them from a farmer who has several flocks, we wouldn’t be hatching any of their eggs though. We have 7 adult hens currently, and 20 young chickies so far this year that are tbd on gender (these brahmas are the oldest 10).
