Ugh, ok thank you. Yea I have already lost three of my Production Reds to EYP so far.

I have a 5 year old Production Red hen, Cinnamon, who has just started becoming aggressive toward me this past year. It's not all the time, mainly when I go out to give all the chickens treats. If she sees my hand is empty it's like she gets mad and tries to flog me like a rooster, then runs...

It may be failure to thrive. However I did have a black Australorp, who did not grow like the rest of the other chicks. She was half their size. We named her ‘Minnie’. She eventually caught up. She’s the same size as the others now.

Sometimes it’s not necessarily anything you are doing, sometimes it just depends on the breed. Production breeds are more prone to reproductive issues, whereas heritage breeds are not as often. I losf two production reds in the past year to EYP and now I have a third one starting the same...

Glad to her your girl is better. I’ve lost two Production Reds last year due to EYP. And I have another one that I just discovered last week starting up with the same symptoms as well; ascitis, lash eggs… etc. I agree with holisticlivings post, Heritage breeds for me from now on as well...

I would have to say australorps. They have a wonderful temperament, they are so sweet. Great egg production. And they have beautiful coloring, in sunlight their black feathers have a green sheen to them.
