Owensboro has a monthly swap at the TSC behind Moonlite BBQ. It'll be on Saturday the 27th of this month. 8am - noon.
Kind of a drive for you, but that's the only one of which I'm aware.
Yes it's soft and rubbery. After some time it will harden, but then you can twist off that outer shell again.
I'd let your hens heal completely before letting them mingle with your rooster again. It doesn't take too long, maybe 2-3 weeks. At this point their wounded skin is still fragile and...
I de-spurred our rooster and clipped his nails in the process. Here's the thread with pics and description...

Unfortunately, I don't plan on having them long enough to see full grow out. Our farm is up for sale, and I sell off the chicks when I can since I never know when the 30 day close time frame will come about.
But I can share some pics I have so far :)

I looove the buffs...I just had to cull my buff rooster due to aggression toward humans and hens alike. He was the secondary, my australorp cock is the primary.
So after this swap, the only chicks I'll have available are pure australorp and australorp over buff brahma.
Buy/Sell/Swap this Saturday, the 23rd at TSC in Owensboro (behind Moonlite BBQ).
9am - Noon. Lots to see!!
I'm bringing 7 week old Buff Brahmas (the last I'll ever have), Australorps, and Brahmalorps. Home hatched & brooded, flock raised by gentle hens and the best flockmaster I've ever had...
"You have enough chicks"
"It's stupid to get so mad over little insignificant chicks"
"They were already dead anyway"
"I was trying to help them hatch"
AND....he left the carnage for you to see.
Sorry. Nope. I call big time BS. This would be an unforgivable event in our household. And I would...
Lol, you're welcome aart! We try not to take ourselves TOO seriously. Any day that I can use a trashcan lid shield and broomstick battle axe is a good one in my adventure book :)
To answer your question, yes I did apply cornstarch to the spur cores. They bled a little more than I...
Thanks!
There are really no holes to speak of...just the cores of the spurs. They're like a smaller, softer version of the original. They scabbed over pretty quick, which was good!
Considering how well the hennies heal up from their mating wounds without any interference from me, I'm...
After countless hours (weeks?) of researching both on and off BYC, I finally decided to get down to the business of de-spurring our rooster, Shaft.
The hennies were getting pretty torn up, and after observing Shaft's mounting style determined that his spurs were doing the most damage. Thought...
