So what I have planned so far is an all medium setup from Kelley Bees. Thought of starting standardized after reading the weight that comes along with it. Also for easier ordering in the future.
I was going to order my bees from there as well but they have since sold out. Has anyone...
Newbie to bee keeping here. About to order my hive and my bees. I'd like your advice on my plan...
Was planning on ordering an all mediums kit from Kelley Bees. I'm thinking of starting with all mediums after research on the weight and standardization. Debating on the Pine or Cypress. I...
Very nice! I like this style of coop. We made the mistake of not doing our nesting boxes like this. We're revamping our coop soon. Spring can't come soon enough!
So its pretty freezing here (for me at least). Feels like -8 according to my phone. Our girls had a couple eggs out in the coop. Question is, is it ever too cold to bring eggs in to put in the incubator?
Good news! So since our coyote issues we decided to coop up the chickens.
Since then, all the eggs we have taken out have been fertilized! Guess he's a HE after all! Just wasn't getting any with the girls running around ;)
They've been in the incubator since the 8th. Going to post a picture...
Thanks. We've since cooped them up. We had a few clusters (?) of eggs that were infertile in the incubator. Since cooping them up we've got fertile eggs! Trying to look at the positives I guess.
What type of hives do you have? Did you cover them in something to winterize? They don't look like any I've seen or looked up.
I never thought about using straps to keep the top on.
All the ones missing are RIW.
Thinking since they're white they're walking targets. We have one RIW hen, one silkie hen and one questionable silkie. *thought* it was a he...starting to think he is a she. hah!
I thought about cooping them up for a bit. I hate doing it but I just read "night hunting" for coyotes is in season where we are. I'm thinking they're being driven out of areas they normally roam. Hoping once that dies down they will go back to where they came from.
