I am finding it frustrating looking for different breeds..... the only chickens I can find in Adelaide are ISA Browns..... which I love BUT I would like to get some different breeds as well. Where do I find them?

You could try placing a few of their own eggs in the new boxes ......

I have had a blast reading this thread! It is easy to see where these stereotypes come from...... movies etc....... I, like most Aussies. enjoy having a laugh at ourselves and exaggerating our 'traits'. Thanks everyone for the entertainment!

"Independent hens of the world" My girls are perfectly happy with no rooster..... other than they do the rooster squat when I approach.... they get a rub and are happy to have a shake and wander off!

Thanks for the idea. Will investigate what I can find and then give some thought on how to attach it....... before I buy anything!!!

My girls are housed in a bird aviary at night and free range when I am home. There is a small covered run attached to the aviary for times when I am out. The aviary is made of galvanised tin and wire. My first winter is coming and I would like to add some kind of removable wind/rain protection...

If you want them to roost at night you will need to make it higher than their nest box......

I love how you are hatching emu's.... something we can't do here in Oz.... without lots of govt red tape! Good luck!
