I have a hen I couldnt find in about twoo weeks and I finally found her the other day sitting on about 15 eggs in our woods so maybe they should hatch pretty soon or around the first of september. My Hens and rooster are Black Australorpes.
Yes I have a ramp for my hens to walk up to get about two feet of ground to walk in nest boxes. If I take away the ramp I guess my hens will still jump up to lay a egg there.
I have a rooster and 4 hens, They just started laying about 2 months ago. I was getting one or two eggs a day then none for a month. I leave their gate shut but a small door open because I like them to free range. We'll we have a small dog smaller than the chickens and the other day she had two...
I also have adult hens (RIR's) 2 yrs. of age. Great breed for what I want, very calm and quiet, not alot of bickering between the girls and a true pleasure to have around.

Live in Texas. Love hunting anything and everything.....Took quiet a few deer this year (7), still have two more weeks of hunting. Also squirrel, ducks, coon, rabbits, etc, etc, etc.....
