Black Silkie roo and the chicks he fathered with Salmon Faverolle and Austra White hens...

Thought I'd update on these chicks now that they're grown up and laying eggs. Both of the Salmon Faverolle mixes are currently broody but neither of the Austra White mixes have been... yet. Only the gray one has a comb like her Silkie father. If anyone is interested I'll take and post some new...

Five-month old Australorp suddenly lame. Update: Now another pullet going lame!

One of my chicks that hatched out in August went suddenly lame in early Oct. She started stumbling around, couldn't stay up on the roost bar, and about a week later her toes had curled under so bad that she attempted to walk on the tops of her feet. It was pitiful and I was so afraid whatever...

    Water Glassing: Egg Preservation Experiment!

Oh, I didn't see until just now that she update again at one year.

    Water Glassing: Egg Preservation Experiment!

Here's the 2nd video where she compares the preserved eggs to fresh ones.

    Water Glassing: Egg Preservation Experiment!

Will do. I really like this woman's videos. She follows up with how the eggs compared to fresh eggs 6 months later.

    Water Glassing: Egg Preservation Experiment!

Thank you so much for this thread. I watched that same video and bought all the supplies a couple of months ago but I've been too chicken (lol) to try it. You've given me the courage to give it a go, and I have a nice little surplus of eggs right now so today's going to be the day!

Black Silkie roo and the chicks he fathered with Salmon Faverolle and Austra White hens...

That one and the one in the middle of the other two in that picture are the Salmon Faverolle crosses. It's hard to tell in the picture but s/he has some brown in its feathering. The solid black and solid gray ones are Austra White crosses. I think they're all gorgeous birds.

Black Silkie roo and the chicks he fathered with Salmon Faverolle and Austra White hens...

You know, that's the only one that I've really questioned the gender about. S/he is the most timid of all of them. Time will tell for sure, though, if Terri is really a Terry. lol

Black Silkie roo and the chicks he fathered with Salmon Faverolle and Austra White hens...

My Silkie roo, Jack, fathered 4 beautiful chicks in August. I *think* they're all pullets but would like confirmation. They'll be 11 weeks old tomorrow.

Almost 4 month old Silkies... pullets or cockerels?

Funny to see this thread over a year and a half later. I forgot to update, oops. I definitely have a Jack, Janet, and Chrissy. Jack fathered 4 chicks this year (and 1 that didn't survive after hatching). Janet hatched out 2 of the surviving 4 chicks. Chrissy has only been broody once, so far...

    Gold Silkie x Salmon Faverolle

Here are my two chicks from a black Silkie roo & Salmon Faverolle hen/s, at 4 weeks... (hatched out by a Silkie, of course.) They're really cute and I can't wait to see what they're going to look like when they're grown. I'll try to get some updated pictures soon.

    Do you name your birds?

Love that! My last flock was full of what I consider old lady names... Ethel, Maude, Esther, Betty, to name a few. This go round I'm going with TV show themes so their names are all over the place. lol

    Do you name your birds?

Most definitely! Our current flock is small with only 10 total, and they are... The Golden Girls... Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, Sophia... almost 8 months old Austra Whites (the chicks in my profile picture) Friends... Monica, Rachael, Phoebe... 4 months old Salmon Faverolles Three's Company... Jack...

Almost 4 month old Silkies... pullets or cockerels?

The second mohawk is now much more of a pompom. I don't see any wattles whatsoever on her(?) either. Fingers crossed that it is a pullet. I wanted a little roo, but only one.
