    **Sick Rooster, please help**

He’s back to normal! I guess he likes scaring me. Must have as many lives as a cat....and he must be getting into things that are harmful for him and making him ill 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for your reply and the directions for dosages! He’s the only rooster in a flock of 50 hens, ducks and guineas. It’s possible he could’ve gotten into something since he’s free ranging. Come to think of it...I had a bag of kitchen scraps that were set outside in a sealed up plastic bag...

    **Sick Rooster, please help**

Yes, it’s him again!! I’m starting to wonder if he’s more suseptible to illness or what 🤯 I think last time it turned out to be an allergic reaction, now this time....I really have no idea but he’s not doing well

    **Sick Rooster, please help**

My 7 month old Australorp rooster (who free-ranges) was fine this morning but got extremely lethargic as the day went on. Now he just sits or stands with his eyes closed. I carried him and he kept his eyes closed, head drooping. Not interested in eating, but I did just give him some...

    Grossly swollen, fluid-filled waddle- rooster

A lot of it is the lighting, but he definitely does have a more vibrant color now, too! :) I am sooo relieved.

    Grossly swollen, fluid-filled waddle- rooster

I think you’re right!! The rooster is so much better today. I figure if it were a serious illness, he’d be much sicker by now. His swelling is greatly decreased, but his waddle had filled back up by this morning. So I drained it again. It was older blood and fluid, and it appears that the fluid...

    Grossly swollen, fluid-filled waddle- rooster

I just got done draining the waddle as best I could. Wasn’t able to get to the pockets under his throat, but at least now he can close his beak better without all that weight in the one waddle.

Thank you. No other animals around here except a dog, and I don’t think we have rodents in the coop. Although, who knows what’s going on out there at night

You can kind of see his legs/feet in this photo- I think it’s normal for him? Or should I be checking the bottoms of his feet?

He’s definitely lethargic today. No secretions that I can tell. His waddles feel hot to the touch, but his body under his wings don’t feel particularly warmer than they should. He’s more swollen, including his other waddle and neck. I think the weight of the fluid is making his mouth hang open...

    Grossly swollen, fluid-filled waddle- rooster

I did check the map and there are no reports of avian flu in my state since last Spring. He is moving more slowly today, rather lethargic. More swollen than yesterday. I gave him the benedryl an hour ago, so will be anxiously waiting to see if there’s any improvement. I think his beak is open...

That’s amazing that the rest of the flock was okay! Do you think in the case of cholera, I still should isolate the rooster even though the rest are almost certainly exposed at this point? Sorry, I’m so new to this...

Thank you for the encouragement! I’ll check around for a vet and see how much it might cost. With my luck, it’s cholera, but definitely hoping it’s something more minor!!

I’m going to hope for the best here, but this is going to make me feel like not trying again if I run into this type of issue right off the bat; if cholera is caught this easily from flyover birds, I wonder how anyone keeps their flocks alive?!

South central, Howell County. No reports of avian flu, but it’s looking like cholera 😳
