    Shaky/weak legs rooster

Unfortunately I didn't end up finding out what was wrong with the Rooster. He just got worse - not eating, not drinking, not able to use his legs to stand. He just flopped on his side and used a wall to stay upright. I had to put him down because he was suffering. It was very sad but I soon...

sudden leg weakness in young rooster.. HELP

So, I know this thread is pretty old but what happened to the rooster? My rooster, just this morning, started acting like this and I am going to borrow some wormer from a friend, but I want to make sure I am doing everything I can.

    Shaky/weak legs rooster

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. I don't think the legs are broken. It seems muscular. The ground is flat and he has been on it a lot, both this year and last.

    Shaky/weak legs rooster

My barred plymouth rock rooster (a bit over 1 year old) has shaky and weak legs. I discovered it this morning - yesterday he was completely fine. He tries to walk around and just stumbles. When he stops walking he just sort of sinks back onto his shins/knees and looks around. Nothing looks wrong...

    Combining 2 Chick Flocks

Thanks for all the replies. I asked a bunch of small-flock farmers and I decided to get 50 more golden comets. From what everyone has been saying they should be ok, with some monitoring, since the new and older chicks are not too different in age/size. I actually had to put one of my full-grown...

    Combining 2 Chick Flocks

Hello, I have been reading old threads about mixing flocks and have read conflicting opinions. Some say that its ok to mix chicks before the 12th week of age and others are saying don't combine them, even if they are 3 days apart in age. Hopefully I can get some clarification on that and some...

    Sprattle Leg?

From what I have been researching it seems like this problem usually arises within the first couple days of the chick's life. My chicks are nearly 1 month old and the problem just arose a couple of days ago. Is my chick too old for the bandaid trick? All the websites I read said the...

    Sprattle Leg?

Hello, I have been reading through some posts to see what is wrong with one of my chicks. I read some posts about sprattle leg and some remedies for it but am not sure if this is actually what my chick has. I received 50 chicks on march 21st of this year. just 2 days ago one of my chick's right...

    Broken Eggs

Hello Ralph, I have this problem too and have done pretty much everything to get them to stop. What seems to be working (somewhat) is advice a hatchery owner told me at a conference recently. He said I needed to break the chickens of their bad habit, which he think started when they...

Injured Chicken - keep with others?

Hello, I discovered one of my plymouth rock hens injured yesterday. She has a wound under her right wing that had driped blood down her feathers. I tried to clean it up as best as I could and put neosporin on the opening. I have 2 questions really, 1, is there anything better I can do to clean...

Ordering more chicks - which breeds should I get?

Hello! I wasn't sure quite where to put this question but I figured managing your flock was the closest related to my question. I am going to be adding 50 laying hens to my flock next spring and I was just going to get a good layer breed. While perusing the hatchery website I saw that they offer...

Unknown illness in Barred Plymouth Rock Hen - Looked like frostbite?

Thanks for replying so promptly! Unfortunately ( mentioned above) she ended up dying - which made me think there was more going on than what I could tell. About brooding - there are a number of my hens that like to spend all laying hours in a favorite nest box. I have 12 nest boxes so there is...

Unknown illness in Barred Plymouth Rock Hen - Looked like frostbite?

Hello, I have a flock of 35 Barred Plymouth Rock hens (and 1 rooster). They are in their first year and live in a pasture/mobile house structure for the summer and pasture/indoor coop for the winter. I had (she ended up dying) a hen who I noticed was sitting by herself in the nest box once the...
