I'm trying to see if my she (on the right) is a he rir. She has the largest comb/waddles of all my pullets, but she doesn't have the feathering of my roos. She's almost 18 weeks old. Is this normal?
I'm confused about your views on heat lamps. Yesterday i read pn your blog not to use them in case of electric outage and birds flying into them. Otherwise, I appreciate most of the info. Thanks!
It's so fun! Yes, there are some that love to nestle into my lap and be stroked all over and some that don't. I have a roo that loves his butt to be pulled on. Something I learned from my parrots. His name is Rooster Cogburn. Original huh? Lol! My son lives with us, so he knows he gets farm...
I wondered that too, but they like to hang out in there so I don't know. Speaking of scared, hubby built a new roost for them with bigger sitting area. It's much nicer, but all the noise scared them when he put it in there. Oh dear. I wasn't there either so who knows how noisy it was. Noisy...
Thank you. That's just the thing. They've been in the coop for 5 weeks, but I think my problem is that I only kept them confined in it for a week before I let them come out into the run in the mornings. I put them in the coop around 7:30 because it seems like that is when they start to hunker...
Omg! Thank you for the sticks! They went in like a charm. My arms just weren't enough to do the trick. My son is a natural and even though I could see his hands shake a bit he was a natural. He loves animals, but these are different and anything different to him is scary. Plus, he's used to...
The stick is a great idea. I can just out stretch my arms for my guineas and they herd well. Isn't the farm life just grand? We had to wait until we were 50, but well worth the wait!
What a great run! We sure learned a lot putting ours up being the newbs that we are at this. Hubby is only involved with construction type stuff and helping me when I need it. It's a lot to ask of someone, but he loves seeing me get to fulfill a lifelong dream.
I'm much calmer now. Actually...
