HELP Need advice on very young Cygnet

Thank you so much. I'm doing everything you mention above minus the Nutri-Drench. I've been using save-a-chick.

HELP Need advice on very young Cygnet

I certainly didn't mean to sound rude. I'm sorry if I did. My cygnet is eating and drinking. I'm giving him chick starter but have ordered Mazuri waterfowl pellets. He does some grazing when outside. Are they as active as ducklings and goslings? This little guy does a lot of sleeping and...

Um, why? Do you have a lot to tell me? It's just a strange request to get on a forum.

HELP Need advice on very young Cygnet

Here I am again. The cygnet from last year did not survive. I have been given another one from the same pair as last year. This little guy is very weak, walks a little funny and will not eat or drink. I need advice ASAP.

illegal to hatch canadian goose eggs?

Yes, it is illegal but that is how I got involved in Wildlife Rehabilitation. I would not pinion or cage them when grown, that would be a really big NoNo. There are two kinds of Canada Geese in the US, migrating and residential. What you have is residential and they will not migrate. The...

HELP Need advice on very young Cygnet

Hello all. I've been given a cygnet to rehab. I've been told it is less than a week old, mute swan, still has egg tooth. It could not follow the momma so it was abandoned. I believe it has splayed leg because it cannot walk. I scoots around a little, usually in a circle to the right. It...

Full grown pekin drake taken at night

A fox will hunt at night. I lost quite a few ducks during the day and it was a bobcat but they will hunt at night as well. They leave very little behind, maybe a few feather but nothing like what you describe. Makes me think dog or coyote. I locked mine up at night but one evening I did not...

    Intervention: Helping Your Chicks Hatch

I have messed this one up big time. I put 13 eggs in my incubator on March 5. The eggs I collected from my 3 duck hens, over the course of 7 days. I candle them on day 14 and they all looked viable. Day 28 comes and goes and I hear nothing. Peeping is finally heard on day 29 and piping...

OMG! My duck has been mutilated!

A bobcat that is so comfortable being around humans like that needs to be dealt with. I'm a Wildlife Rehabilitator and if we get in a wild animal that has been desensitized to humans like this we are encouraged to put the animal down. Wild animals need to remain wild for their own safety and...

OMG! My duck has been mutilated!

Loosing your ducks to predators is heartbreaking but when we allow them to free range then it's going to happen. I let mine out during the day and lock them up at night. I have lost 6 so far this year but I know it's going to happen. I know that sounds cruel but keeping them penned up is cruel...

    Is this splayed leg?

Thank you. I will take a look at that site. There is a kiddie pool in his pen but he is too big to float. I was thinking a trip to the pond is in order but I may never get him back up to the pen. He really is a freak-out duck.

    Is this splayed leg?

I was given this Muscovy a few weeks back. He is young, not fully feather but pretty big. He was a runner and very skidish. He seemed to have wide stance but Muscovys do so I was not alarmed. Well, I've noticed that he is having trouble walking now and it gets worse every day. His legs are...

    Releasing Mallard duckling

Treesie93 is correct. Just like we do for our children, you slowly release them. They soon yearn for that independence and become the wild creature they were born to be. I received several this year and they each have found their own way. They usually group up and then go their way in groups...

    First i've seen of this

I have a very young Mallard duckling that had been abandoned. He is starting loosing his fuzz, It is on both sides of his body, under wings, on each side his tail and each cheek. I've rubbed him down with DE twice. I don't see any lice or mites. Anyone have any ideas?
