    2017 Gosling Hatch a long!!

Thank you for the info! I can't wait to update everyone with (hopefully) fertile eggs! When they hatch, I'll keep a close eye on Ziggy and make sure she's a good goose mom just to be safe.. But the ladies are great friends so I hope they'll do wonderfully together :)

    2017 Gosling Hatch a long!!

Hello everyone! I have a pair of Sebastopol - a two year old white female (Lucy) and a one year old grey and white female (Ziggy) that was sold to me as a gander. Our 2 year old female went broody on a nest of infertile eggs, so today I purchased 7 pilgrim / buff mixed eggs for a dollar a piece...

pullet sitting flat on butt with legs in front of her

She has a crazy feet - seven toes on 1 foot and six on the other, so I'm hoping that maybe something is just wrong with one of her feet. I felt them and no toes seemed broken but I'm not sure

pullet sitting flat on butt with legs in front of her

Yes, that is basically the pose although that chicken looks much more dramatic than she does. She is at the bottom of the pecking order, and I just got rid of her brother two days ago. She doesn't have any other symptoms of that disease, but I'm terrified that that could be it. I don't want to...

pullet sitting flat on butt with legs in front of her

I woke up this morning to find my 30 week old silkie pullet, Dazzler, sitting flat on her butt with her legs stretched out in front of her. She tries to stand and then falls down. Neither leg is broken or paralyzed, she just can't stand. I felt her all over and couldn't find any obvious broken...

    Geese Breed Focus - Sebastopol

I don't know why I called them ducklings haha. I have a Sebastopol myself. She's incredibly sweet!

They are so cute! Will they turn white or are those grey ducklings?

    The Duck Thread

Update: candled my eggs and I can see movement! Can't see through the shells, but the air cells are obviously moving a little bit.

Nope. She won't budge. Currently waiting for her to get up so I can check them out

No smell that I could detect other than goose butt. I want to candle them but my goose was being especially stressed when I checked on the eggs. Maybe she knows something I don't.

So, it's day 23ish of incubation and all of my duck eggs (being brooded under a goose) suddenly have these black spots in them. They weren't there yesterday. The mom is a Cayuga / runner mix. Are they rotten or is it normal for duck eggs to do this? They have been alive (as far as I could tell)...

    Geese Breed Focus - Sebastopol

Here's Lucy, my yearling Sebastopol, sitting in a nest of 7 duck eggs and two of her own eggs. She's been an amazing broody so far!

I like.... Rolls with the egg. Not like it's moving independently.

If I could I would take her in a heartbeat!
