Got my first egg (with a hard shell) on Sunday 10/1, and egg number 2 on Tuesday. :ya
Thes were from my speckled sussex, she just turned 20 weeks.
The egg on the left is egg 2, the smaller one on the right is the first one.

Just a follow up at 19 weeks, she laid her first egg. It's a soft shell, as I haven't switched the feed over yet to layer feed (I have a couple of youngsters turning 18 weeks in another week). But here it is, the proof in the pudding if you will. This is the...
Hi Sue T, she's doing great! She's going to be 15 wks if I remember right. I need to get a better pic, she's lightening fast. Her comb is still pale and no waddles. Probably around mid/late September when she will start laying
I was trying to see the comb - what I do see makes me think pullet. It's the same age as mine and looks just like mine and mine is definitely a pullet :) Comb looks pale, not red. Please keep us posted :)
According to a 99.99% accurate DNA blood test, she's a pullet. But I guess the proof is in the pudding so in a couple of months when she lays her first egg, I'll post bac. Unless of course she in the.01% margin of error and crows - and I'll post for that as well.
Renn, do you still have your SS? I was in the same situation- ppl all said cockerel based on a pic. But I just had mine DNA tested (long story, but I had 2 chicks I thought were Roos and I had a $40 scratch lottery winner so thought what the heck) so on the 2 I thought were Roos, both came back...
Nflchickengirl, I just posted a timeline of my Speckled earlier today titled something like 'sexing Speckled Sussex (1st time chicken mom's observations). I put a bunch of pics in. I had mine DNA tested (a blood test) because I thought it was a rooster since she jumped out of the shipping box on...

This is where I have all of my dog heath clearances done (I have show dogs that require various tests for breeding prospects) they are a very reputable lab avian, canie, equine. The cost is a little cheaper than another lab I found, but went...
She is going to be 11 weeks old come Sunday. And yup, a lot of pink and a lot of comb. I would have said rooster, and always suspected until the last few weeks. I actually did a blood DNA test with DDC Veterinary, and the results are female. I read the certificate no less than 20 times. So she's...
Hi Everyone! I am a new chicken mom and have been searching BYC since day one for hints and tips on sexing chicks, especially speckled sussex. I must have read every post. Some were really informative and some had a lot of members giving their observations and input, but in the end, the original...
Hi, hi, Long Island Chicken people. I just found the LI post - but I had also put this in the NY thread. I am a super new chicken mom, from Huntington. Right now I have 13 chickies ranging from 6 weeks to 8.5 weeks, in my brooder pen while I finish up some landscaping and work on the coop...
Hi, hi, NY Chicken people. I am a super new chicken mom, from Long Island (Huntington), NY. Any one here also from LI. Right now I have 13 chooks ranging from 6 weeks to 8.5 weeks, in my brooder pen while I finish up some landscaping and work on the coop. Chicken math did me in. I wound up...
Wow, that is very interesting. Makes me now wonder. I ordered from MPC, which is with Meyer. I had planned 2 orders based on a couple of available breeds. The first 6 hatched 5/15 - Speckled Sussex (who i planned the order around and is looking more and more roo :/ ), Lavender Orpington...
