Silkie and Sizzle Hatching Eggs (images in reply)

Well I am striking out with eBay, and eggs have piled up! I have 1 dozen eggs available, the oldest eggs were laid on Saturday the 6th. My flock consists of Silkies, Sizzles, 1 Smooth Sizzle Showgirl. I also have 1 Mottled Cochin hen, and a Mottled D'uncle rooster in the coop so be aware you may...

Well, there are a lot of variables to that one. I am not 100% sure about porcelains, I've never gotten into them, but I believe they are buff diluted with lavender. Lavender is recessive (need 2 copies of the gene) so that would not show in your chicks because there would only be 1 copy of the...

    Rainbow Hatchery...MIA..?

I ordered a small bunch of pea chicks from Rainbow Hatchery, who advertised on here, early this year. I've recently moved and messaged them about my change in shipping address, but didn't hear back after multiple messages on here. I then checked their website and saw they were not shipping any...

Yes I agree with chrisNchickens, vaulted skulls are fragile and should not be petted. As for free ranging, I disagree that they should not free range. Mine have for years and I haven't had a problem. I guess it depends on your location, resident predators, how much you keep an eye on them, etc...

    Chick cut below eye..

A silkie chick hatched this morning under a broody, and when I got home this afternoon I found the chick alone on the floor peeping like crazy with mom eating and scratching the floor nearby. The chick was clearly distressed so I picked it up and found that both eyes are swollen shut and it has...

    Showing Seramas

"All Other Variety" or "Any Other Variety", for unrecognized colors. For example Paint Silkies are being shown as AOV-Paint, even at sanctioned APA/ABA shows, in order to get paints out there in the judge's eye, and hopefully have them become a recognized variety of Silkie.

Thanks! She definitely had blues in there, and a porcelain rooster I'm pretty sure.

This is one of my pullets I hatched last fall, can anyone shed some light on the color here? I'm not sure how I got to this, the eggs I incubated were from a coop of mixed colors and I do not know who was the mother or father. It almost looks like a splash with red, do you guys think so? Is this...

Another thing you'll have to work with is your hen will throw hard feathered chicks, split to silkie if bred to your Silkie rooster. Those chicks bred to a Silkie will give you both hard and Silkied chicks. I'm starting a mottled Silkie project and that is the hurdle I am encountering. I have...

Lucky you! It's hard to say exactly what would be best, there really is no way to tell. One thing I would warn about though is if they are all being housed together Silkie roosters, or any roosters really, can get feisty with each other. Every one is different I've had some that got along well...
