Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Oh it's been busy growing our family and focusing on various life things. The chickens are pretty simple, though we're happy to have welcomed 4 new girls into the flock! Our daughter named them: Little Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, and Rapunzel. She loves Little Belle the most. She's a prairie...

    Freeloaders

If so then it's taken a long time to manifest since she was attacked over a month ago. I'll be looking at her more tomorrow, but she doesn't look swollen. She is looking a bit molty. It's been tough, she's a cream leghorn and she always seems to have odd tone changes in her feathers. I believe...

    Freeloaders

I've got a leghorn and a crevecour, both hens, who don't lay anymore. Curious if it's potentially a side effect of the only two having been pursued by predators this summer. The crevecour has always been odd and slow to start (broody and molting too, she's been our little handful). But the...

    Hen Mounting Other Hen

I have a mixed flock, but mainly Australorpes. We had a couple roosters to test but had to fill them due to noise complaints. The ladies accepted them readily and really didn't seem to mind the uh, harassment they got every morning. No balding or bullying just chicken breeding. I'm wondering if...

Colorado Search- Easter Eggers and Crevecours

My husband and I are looking to round out our flock. We love the crevecours and want to breed them in the upcoming year or two, and he really wants some different colors in our egg production (hence the search for Easter Eggers). Anyone on the front range of Colorado savvy to breeders or...

    Crevecour Not Laying

I'm in the Denver area, so we get a lot of sunshine. All my other girls, aside from one molting hen, are laying. But the egg uptick you described sounds about right to what I saw last winter. Thanks for the input! :)

    Crevecour Not Laying

That hadn't occurred to me. All the other eggs are left alone, and there's never any shell bits in the nesting boxes.

    Crevecour Not Laying

She definitely lays the least of my girls. This past winter she didn't stop laying at all, just less frequently.

    Crevecour Not Laying

Unfortunately the other crevecour has passed. The other breeds are a porcelain leg horn and 4 autralorpes. She's queen-bee, and enjoys spending time with the porcelain and one of the australorpes (they've been together the longest). She's always been the slowest growing and most particular bird...

    Crevecour Not Laying

My lovely girl, Katya, is being stubborn. She was broody for about 2 months, then started to molt. During the end of her molt she laid two eggs and then hasn't laid again since. It's been about 2 months since the last egg from her and I'm just at a loss. She's just over 2 years old and eating...

Official BYC Poll: How do you name your pet chickens?

We name our chickens after female names found in music. Black Bettty, Roxanne, Peggy Su... all the classics!

    Yellow/Shriveled Ears on Leghorn

No roosters in my flock (yet!), but I very much appreciate the peace of mind through your shared experience. They both just finished molting so that is perfect timing. I appreciate the perspective! Will be keeping my eyes peeled for any behavior that isn't normal.

    Yellow and Shriveled-Looking Ears (Leghorn)

One of my leghorns has slightly yellowed ears and they look almost shriveled in a way. This is accompanied by some slight feather loss around her comb and a little on the back of her head. The feather loss looks like they've been pecked at, but she is one of the more alpha chickens so I'm...
