So sweet! My mix up hen turned out to be an Easter Egger (we think). Here she is at a few weeks (?) and at 7 months. She was supposed to be a Chocolate Australorp 😂
I’m still confused about my birds’ breeds at over 7 months old 😝 But they are all wonderful birds who lay beautiful delicious eggs. They bring so much joy to my life
How are your chicks doing? Did you discover what type they are? Would love to see a new pic!
My Golden Buff (aka Golden Comet, Cinnamon Queen) was a similar pale yellow as a chick but had different markings 💛
What color eggs do yours lay? To my shock, I found out that our Golden Buff is laying khaki eggs! Top right in the pic.
I thought she was laying the pale brown egg, but I saw her lay the khaki egg and we found 7 in a secret nest, indicating an almost daily layer. The pale eggs are sporadic.
Found this article through a Google search. I appreciate the detail. My Golden Buff from a local independent garden center is laying large khaki colored eggs and not regularly. I’m so surprised and wondering what the heck? She has a wonderful personality, like yours. Since it’s been 11 years...

Ours don’t seem interested in dandelions! Or the invasive ivy! Or the bindweed! They do scratch up the bind weed though, making it easier to pull. At least they lay eggs 😉
Oh, interesting. Our daughter lived in Yelm off and on when she was younger. She has family in Rainier.
Small world.
I’d love to see pics of your chickens!
Thank you so much for this recommendation! In addition to needing it for our chicken area, we have a very large hell strip, aka parking strip, that has been neglected for decades. I know the neighbors are tired of looking at it. I’ve been wanting to see if some type of cover crop could rehab the...
Yep! She looked like an Australorp for about 3 days 😆 Then we thought our other black chick was the Australorp until a few days ago. Didn’t know they didn’t have muffs and pea combs 🤪 So, what were supposed to be Black Australorp and Chocolate Orpington are both EE/OE, so we have 6 of those...
