Silkie

Pros: does well in confined spaces
Cons: Prone to leg issues as chicks, prefers sleeping in the nesting boxes at night rather than roosting
I purchased my silkies from TSC over a year ago. Believe it or not, none have gone broody so far, they lay a good amount of eggs and they're not as low ranking in the flock like I thought they would be - pretty bossy chickens! I'm giving 3 stars because they didn't turn out as I expected. I feel like this review was meant for another breed, but nope! I will edit my review when I purchase from a breeder, I definitely want to give this breed another go.
Pros: Natural leaders, great layers, tolerant in all climates
Cons: prone to internal laying after the age of 2-3 years.
editing my review after raising a couple black sex links for a few years.

Leghorn

Pros: Lots of personality, great egg production, hard worker
Cons: none that I can think of
Pros: I love my leghorn! I think I'd love to get more of these if I knew they would turn out like mine. She is chatty (could be a con for some) her egg song is fast, not sure if I'd call it pleasant but it gives me a chuckle when I hear her compared to the others. She is very people oriented. When we had the flock penned up in the run, she'd always find a way to escape it (again could be a con for some). She has a lot of will power. When one of our rescue dogs (new to our home) injured her, things weren't looking good, I thought I'd have to put her down, but with lots of care she fought very hard and 100% recovered. She loves to find her own food. She is the reason I love raising chickens.

Cons: none that I can think of

Pros: dual purpose
Cons: I can't remember the last time mine laid an egg
Pros: Dual purpose, beautiful red bird

Cons: maybe it's just my hen but I can't remember the last time she's laid an egg. Her eggs are medium, reddish brown, and beautiful. Not sure why she's not laying, could be the fact that she is at the bottom of the pecking order in my flock. She's a bum and eats all the food. Not sure if I'm going to keep her around much longer. Hoping she starts laying again this spring.

Pros: ornamental
Cons: slow to mature, skittish
Pros: I can't express how much I love these birds, I love to watch them forage in the yard. My pullet had the cutest egg song, she sounded like a squeek toy LOL the cockerel was handsome and love to dance a lot for the ladies. His crow matched his handsome looks. Smooth, and pleasant (but very loud, and he crowed throughout the day). I had to give them away as a pair because I live in the city and didn't want any complaints from the neighbors.

Cons: despite us handling them a lot as biddies they were still very skittish of us compared to the rest of the bird. When they were chicks they'd follow me around but once they got older the ran from me. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't buy these as chicks to avoid the heartache of getting rid of them (unless I lived out in the country and having the roo didn't matter)

Pros: Good egg layers, chatty, sweet disposition
Cons: Were sold as Araucanas
Pros: They are the sweetest birds in my flock. They are pretty chatty (that could be a con to some) but I love the way they "laugh" and I love their egg song, loud yet pleasant. I have 2; one lays an olive egg, and the other lays a blue egg. Their egg productions is pretty good, they out lay my buff orp!

Cons: They were sold to me as Araucanas

Pros: See full review
Cons: none really
Pros: Best egg layers in my flock. I can always count on them to lay especially during cold months. Very hearty birds. One of mine got attacked by an owl, and as bad as the wound looked, she toughed it out. You would have never known there was anything wrong with her, except for a few feathers out of place! One of them is the dominant hen; the head honcho, also with a fairly muffled and pleasant egg song. quiet enough to keep in my urban backyard. The other one has a terrible egg song LOL!

Cons: They were sold to me as Plymouth Barred Rocks, I ended up with Black Stars, but it worked out in the end. Love these birds.

Pros: beautiful bird, pleasant egg song, hearty
Cons: broody, egg production not as good as I thought
Pros: My hen lays light brown eggs with white speckles, beautiful bird, looks bigger than she actually is. Slightly darker than most buff orps. She has a pleasant, smooth egg song. Egg production good.

Cons: She is broody, but not in the sense of sitting on the eggs, she doesn't like the other hens around *her* nest boxes. Not just one nest box, ALL of them! Her egg production wasn't as good as I was expecting, laying every other day sometimes every 2 days.
