I think this is a great item. Chicks in a natural setting under a broody are able to choose when to get out of the heat so this idea made complete sense to me.

I ordered the clear plastic top with mine so the chicks can't jump on top of it and poop.

I have the mini advance II and I love it. I basically just plug it in and add water every day. My first hatch was 100%.

Buy a heated dog dish instead. This design has too many things wrong with it, two being: the cord is way too short, and the base doesn't fasten properly causing huge spills. Not something I had a lot of patience to deal with in subzero temperatures.
