D'uccles completely captured my heart with 2 'impulse buy' porcelain chicks I bought at the feed store. I was impressed at how calm they were compared to the other chicks in the bin and they actually enjoyed being held carefully & snuggling. I went back for more 2 weeks later. After ending up with a few male d'uccles who were nice and liked being held and never mean, I decided this was the breed for me! Now I am actively raising a flock of d'uccles in 2 colors and trying to share with everyone how wonderful they are. I hope to promote the breed as much as I can and show every year to get the word out about my favorite bantam breed. I have learned the hens make good broodies and mommas without going broody 'all the time'. They lay really well for me except in the freezing winter months.
