Leghorn

Pros: Pretty birds, great white eggs
My husband wanted leghorns in the worst way. They were a late addition to our flock but they blend in just fine. They seem small although I was told they were often used as meat birds. They lay beautiful white eggs and (so far) have kept up laying well into winter.

Wyandotte

Pros: Great layers, pretty looking
I have 6 wyandottes- one male, one gold laced and 4 silver laced. I chose them because of how they looked (as we live in a historic farmhouse and are trying to recreate the look of a 19th century farm). I have no complaints- they have a great temperment and they lay eggs regularly.

Cochin

Pros: Small, great hatchers, small eggs perfect for an "eggMcmuffin"
Cons: Small eggs
I have one cochin left (**** fox). She is TINY compared to the rest of our flock (that she raised). They are GREAT chickens as pets since they are so friendly. She sits on my shoulder when I'm in the coop and she sings to me! Soft as silk and so friendly! If we didn't have suck a big rooster I'd get more cochins...

Pros: Great layers
Cons: A bit aggressive. They peck my shoes when I'm in their coop and one of them pecked a little girl who was feeding them grass.
I picked these chickens because I KNEW I'd be getting girls (because of the color difference). They're great layers but a teeny bit aggressive. They tend to peck me when I'm in there with food or water and they have pecked visitors before. They aren't bad- it's not like I'd get rid of them, but I don't think I'll get anymore.

Pros: These are large beautiful birds. They have been steady layers all winter long
Cons: they seem to be getting broody lately (If that can be a con)
Love my Buffy's. They are a large seemingly hearty breed and they are great layers. I'd like to either invest in a few more or breed them.

Pros: They have laid all winter long, they look beautiful and they seem to have a great temperment.
I have 5 Ameraucana's that I bought to help replenish our flock last spring. I had no idea they would have the "beard" feature (or what my husband calls mutton chops). Their green eggs are a big hit with my customers. I plan on investing in some more this spring because they are great layers and they seem to have a good temperment.
