Olandsk Dwarf

Bright, social birds. Beautiful Plumage with speckles covering the body. Roosters rarely fight and the chickens get to about 7-8 ounces. Very smart birds and like to be included in everything.

The Olandsk Dwarf breed of chickens is small, colorful, and very social. They are classified as a landrace breed and tend to be hard to find. They originate from Sweden on the island Oland and were made for the size, production, and their cold hardy features. They are around 7-8 ounces in size and are considered a true bantam breed.

There is no standard for the breed in the United States as of yet, but there may be one in the future. Their own eggs can range from 65-125 US dollars and chicks can range from 15- 90 US dollars in pricing. Since they are a small chicken breed they are good with not a lot of space like most larger poultry breeds. They are very sweet and tend to not be flighty like other bantam chicken breeds.

Their numbers were reported to have dropped as low as 50 in the 1980's. Olandsk Dwarf chicken were imported into the US by Greenfire Farms in 2012, and they are becoming popular in the US. They are a beautiful breed, make good pets, and are a good choice for someone with limited space looking for a friendly little bird as they can cope well in small coops (to a certain extent). They are said to be quite flock oriented.

Their broody hens are fair layers of small white eggs, and make good mothers. In the US they have single combs and clean legs.

Both the males & females are very colorful birds that usually come in a splash or spangled pattern in various colors, including red, black, white, yellow and gray.
